Registered 9 years agoEven though the older games show their age, they are tactically perfect. I still get some enjoyment from the latest iteration, but I am glad they are trying to make the franchise work for them, instead of shoehorning the older narratives. -

Considering it was basically an art swap I rather enjoyed TFTD, but some of those two and three stage missions were a real slog.

Favorite is still Apocolypse, the real time combat may have removed most of the tactical feel but it was fun having a giant team of robots shooting a building to death.

Registered 10 years agoDamn. I'd better finish Bloodborne: The Old Hunters, Transformers: Devastation and start Fallout 4... stat! -
I really really want this now.
This year looks like a great year for Strategy games. -

Registered 17 years agoFrom what I've read, they have avoided confirming one way or another on console ports. I'm hoping my laptop has enough grunt to run XCOM2 myself. -

"A bit" clunky is understatement of the decade for the original UFO/TFTD. Inventory management alone was such a pain in the ass I'd never play it without the "remember squad loadout" mod.

(Xenonauts is a good modern version of the "classic" gameplay, with all manner of quality of life upgrades). -

Registered 18 years agoI was very, very, happy to see that they've included a line of sight flag in the interface this time round.
One of the most frustrating elements of XCOM: EU was it was very unclear at times if you were going to be able to take a shot or not. Especially as the AI never seemed to suffer from the same problem. -

I recommend the Miss_Jamball stream - the guy playing it is funny as fuck and has modified some of the game files so research and building completes faster so he can show more, as the build is limited to 3 months of gameplay. -

Registered 17 years agoModding is apparently quite simple via the INI files - fully commented so you can fuck about with all sorts of things. Just saw a mission with 48 (yes, forty eight) XCOM troopers .gif)
Load times were slightly affected. -

Registered 16 years agoI really hope the aliens actually move around before I find them this time. Please, please please make the aliens move around in the fog of war so I don't have a squad of 4 snipers and two members who simply trigger the aliens and then hide.

Registered 16 years agoHope that's true, I've seen some stuff about patrol patterns but nothing about actual AI movement out there on the map. -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, they make organised patrols. Another thing I've noticed from some of the previews is that this time round movement turns feature waypoints, so you can navigate around with a lot more control.
The more I see of it, the more I like. It seems to encourage a more adventurous style of play than XCOM:EU Yeah, because that's not going to get me wiped ALL THE TIME.

Registered 17 years agoI've been replaying XCOM this last weekend, carrying on from where I obviously chucked the dummy out of the pram because one of my super elite soldiers got twatted. I forgot just how brutal this game is!
XCOM 2 is preordered and next weekend is going to be pretty excellent, first big game of the year!

Registered 6 years agoYeah same here, albeit doing a bit of the Long War mod rather than Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within as I played those to death on my xbox.
My pre-order can't arrive soon enough, this is the game I've been most looking forward to this year by far. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm replaying enemy within, and currently on my base defense. I have two rookies who are fucking cleaning house here. They're getting 5 damage crits on the alien horde with shitty rifles. I'm doing my best to look after the hardy little bastards. -

Registered 19 years agoI love watching Marbozir for XCOM Let's Plays. He's quite defensive (which will catch him out in XCOM 2 from what I've seen), but his accent and funny comments about his squad members / alien engagements never gets old.
Sadly, I had to cancel the preorder I posted on Page 1, ths missus is in the final 6 months of her PhD so I can't commandeer her laptop, and can't justify the cost of updating my dinosaur PC to a high-end gaming PC for one game.
Add me to the list of people praying they announce a console version soon after the PC version is out! -
I have once, and only once managed to get to the base invasion on Ironman Classic, and to this day I stand by that it was through a sheer streak of luck. Should of bought a lottery ticket instead.
