Because you have crushing unlocked from the start I think it's a really good platinum game. You can get it in one playthrough although you might need to spend an hour or two mopping a few things up after
There are a few speed run trophies added which are a nice different challenge too.
Overall it's the sort of platinum I like to go for, not many stupid trophies, just do everything on the hardest difficulty. (Well there's a new even harder difficulty but definitely would push things to frustrating over fun challenge.) -
Is Crushing still basically "bullet sponge" mode?
Even though I Platinumed Uncharted 2 back in the day (and did Uncharted 1 on Crushing without most of the trophies) I'm finding these games a slog on normal.
Playing thse on Crushing is pretty much the exact opposite of fun. -
@ClemFandango
I've just dribbled on myself a wee bit with the thought of that! -
Just finished 1 - bar the last boss and despite the shonkier controls, I actually enjoyed it more than 3.
Just the last third of 2 to play through now -

I disagree entirely. I find playing on normal the exact opposite of fun and crushing finally makes the combat interesting.
I thought Uncharted 1 was absolute bolx when I played it originally. Gave up on it halfway through and then rented it much later and finished it off. Played it on normal though.
On crushing I thought it was a much better game. The AI is better on crushing so the combat is a lot more fun.
Not bullet sponge mode in the slightest. -

I swear I never saw that on crushing? I died a lot faster, but enemies still go down with a headshot.
Cleaning up a few trophies on easy, I thought I'd noticed that enemies took the same number of bullets to die or the difference was negligible.
The big difference is how hard they hit / how little health I have on crushing. -
@Gregolution MAybe they've tweaked it for the ND Collection. Definitely the original games on PS3 they became bullet sponges.
I find the cover system too clunky and unreliable for it to be fun. When you're wrestling the controls in the heat of battle it kills the game IMO. Again, I think Vanquish has broken nearly all other cover shooters for me.
Having said all that, I'm nearing the end of Uncharted 2 and it really is a cut above the other two. Better pacing, variety of locations, encounters and controls. -

Fair enough. I do agree the controls aren't perfect but to the original point , I genuinely find it more fun on crushing than normal. -
Whelp, I've abandoned 2, right near the end. Those err, monster lads - over 100 bullets from an AK 47 (on normal)) and he's still running around like he's at indoor footie? Fook off.
This has to be be the biggest 180 I've ever done on a series, the trilogy is largely rubbish to me now, sheesh

Registered 16 years ago@FuzzyDuck Those walking monsters in uncharted 2: it's grenades, rpgs and the hammer anything else isn't going to even slow them down. They are bullshit but anywhere they are present there's always explosive weaponry lying around somewhere to kill them or at the very least there's an environmental way of killing them.
Thankfully they ditched those guys in the 3rd game.

Registered 9 years agoFinally got around to finishing the last part of the first game, and I have to say the final quarter elevated it from "this is actually quite crap" to "that was pretty acceptable". As soon as I got into the puzzle room with the roman numerals and the zombie dudes showed up, I actually started to have fun!
I think I just found the usual human gun combat really dull, and many of the earlier platforming puzzles were a terrible combination of being utterly linear, but still easy to fuck up thanks to sloppy controls.
But with the longer and more challenging puzzles, and enemies that aren't just about pew-pewing from behind cover, it suddenly got quite a bit more enjoyable. Not enough to save the game in my estimation, but at least it ended on a high.
Even if I died a dozen times on the last boss before working out the strategy to kill him was to hide behind a box until he shoots the box enough times to destroy it, as then and only then are you allowed to rush him (and not a moment before). Which when you think about it, is fucking stupid.
Very interested to see how the second one stacks up. I really, really hope I don't have to wade through another six hours of dull gun battles to get to the good stuff again. -

Registered 14 years agoI can't help but think that Uncharted is a game of its time. Even UC2, which many lauded as utterly amazing, seemed just okay to me (better than UC1 for sure, but UC1 was a boring slog). When TLOU came out, it effectively fixed many of the problems with these other games.
I wonder what's gonna happen with UC4. Will it still follow the same formula, or will they try to make it fresh somehow?

Registered 14 years agoSo I started UC3 today, got to about halfway through in an afternoon.
This is a bit pants coming from UC2, isn't it? The combat is suddenly lacking any kind of feedback, I can headshot enemies and they don't even feel it (playing on Hard). The story is really confusing. And why do I get the feeling that Chloe looked better in the last game? -

Registered 15 years agoConversely I'm enjoying UC3. It's probably because it's the only one I haven't played already so it just feels much fresher having replayed the first two.
As above though, I feel generally they're all feeling pretty dated. I really hope they somehow update the formula for 4. -

Registered 10 years agoJust started 3 myself, cant help but feel a bit let down to ve honest, last of us for me was simply brilliant and with the hype the uncharted series had behind it i was probably expecting too much.
They are not bad games but feel very "last gen" which in a way i cant really hold against it. I thought i would repeat playthroughs of this but will probably finish three and sell up. Still looking forward to four. Hope they can finally nail the mechanics for the last game, especially as tlou worked well. -

Registered 14 years agoThe more I play, the more UC3 reminds me of an inferior UC2. The plot and situations are still pretty much the same between all the games, so it's getting harder to care. They really need to come up with something different for UC4.
Oh, and all those people who complained about the Tomb raider reboot being a "Lara Croft torture simulator"? Honestly, Drake doesn't have it that much better here. Guy feels like he's spending half his time getting smashed into some wall or falling back-first from ridiculous heights with no ill effect.
Maybe the next game is called "A Thief's End" because all those falls will finally break his spine.

Registered 14 years agoJust finished this.
Well, if UC2 was pretty much an improved version of UC1, then UC3 is like an inferior clone of UC2. The plot is all over the place, the villains don't work at all (not that they were much better in the previous games, or even in TLOU: I guess Naughty Dogs should work on their villains), the side characters also don't have a reason to exist. Many of the setpieces looked like carbon copies of stuff that happened in UC2 as well.
The combat is worse too, with shots often going through the enemies, and the addition of "brutes" who for some reason seem able to resist headshots. Good suspension of disbelief there.
On the plus side, the middle part of the game is decent, although it has some really annoying combat scenarios. But the opening third is really boring, and the last third is a bit too crazy and without focus. Also, the hand-to-hand fighting has finally become acceptable.
Took me bit more than 7 hours on Hard. Not a bad game, but like the first one, it just seems so... forgettable. -

Registered 15 years ago@FuzzyDuck I just finished Uncharted 2 on normal yesterday and I agree with you. What I found even stranger is that they can take three clips to take down, but will die with one shot of the crossbow! Hohum.
Just to also touch on Gregolution's point about playing on higher difficulty. Even playing on normal was just about on the edge of not being fun. I swear I got some dudes where it took about 5 head shots to put them down. Two to take their helmet off. One to take their balaclava off.And then another two to take them down. On normal.
Running from the tank and the helicopter were also particular low points for me. I'm glad I can say I have played through the games, but they were clearly not for me. -

Registered 18 years agobut isn't uncharted on purpose like that. You have to make sure to have the right weapon set up for the areas. Of course they give you a sniper rifle lying around when you will need it, but otherwise you have to juggle the weapons a bit.
There were set ups where I struggled badly and then I switched and it made the same area piss easy. Somethimes a shotgun is all you need. or once I decided to pack the grenade trower into the next level and fair enough the next bit 4 GAU guys waited for me. 4 shots, all 4 guys dead, piss easy. While with a AK I would be pulling my hair out.
I played Uncharted 1 a few days ago and finished it and now am at the end of U2. I am loving the remakes more than i expected, really got back into the feeling of these games, and I really love Drake. I don't think there is any other game charakter that I like as much as him.
the humor is great.
but the point is, if these bullet sponge dudes arive and you realise that they are bullet sponges, but that some wepaons like crossbow one shot kill them, why not just use that weapon and be happy.
I imagine people be like "nope, I want to use my AK now, ahhhhh fuck, why is he not dying...:"
clearly one of the best game series ever made! Naughty dog is on par with from software, whatever they do, deliver it and take my money! -

Registered 16 years agoBullet sponge enemies are annoying but every area they are in there's always plenty of tools to kill them lying around if you explore the level properly. -
Oh yeah, it is clearly not impossible. Just..., I guess, not to my liking. That is all. Peace and love to all that love Uncharted. Very pretty and polished game. Those are just my own humble observations and critiques.
