    glol, ok then!

This wasn't going to stop me playing or anything, mind. I'm more than happy to keep going, in the hopes of seeing more Alpacaman.

@Mola_Ram I said exactly the same thing. Trust me when I say there is so much more to him

Alpacaman pales in comparison to the glory that is Mayuri.

I just keep comparing him with Mayuri in Bleach, who actually is a mad scientist. Must be a theme.

Wtf is wrong with these people. Okabe is freaking out about possibly disappearing someone in a time paradox, then the very next day they're planning to give Lukako a retroactive sex change, altering 16 years of history. Sure, why not? What could possibly go wrong?

@Mola_Ram Pffff - I'm sure all that changing history will work out juuuust fine.

I'm definitely enjoying this, though there is a *lot* of text - personally I think I prefer a little more interactivity in my visual novels - and the time leap stuff is disconcertingly similar to elements of the Zero Escape series.

I'm assuming (though don't tell me) that all the bullshit about the organisation and such isn't just madness, but rather memories from future Okabe (or someone else).

    :)

It really is brilliant and just gets better and better the further into the story you get. And once you get to playing through the multiple endings.... :'(

Good game, though! But I'm not terribly sure that I'll be interested in the sequel to it - the whole thing seems pretty tied-off with the true ending.

The sequel is set during the main game not after it, between the final 2 endings IIRC. It is worth playing in my opinion even if it isn't strictly necessary.

Oh, so it's about the future Okabe who sends the video message to present Okabe? I guess you could get some story about how those 15 years went.

    :')

Steins;Gate 0 branches off from a certain part of the true ending. It then picks up a few months later. I'm only about 7/8 hours in, but I'd say if you loved the first one, you should play 0.

Well, I was 7 or 8 hours in. The patch has just corrupted my save.

@Ror might be a long shot, but your vita may have uploaded a save file to ps+, so you might have a non corrupt save file in the cloud which you could download.

@MrMattAdz Yeah, I posted in the Steins;Gate 0 thread. I decided to try uploading my save, then deleted and reinstalled the game. Downloaded the save file again and it worked.

Despite the game/system telling you the save is "corrupted", what it really means is it's incompatible with the new version, post-patch.

@Ror ah okay, I'll keep that in mind when I play it, getting it for Christmas :)

@MrMattAdz Just make sure to update it before you start! When I started there were no patches, now it's on v 1.02, I think.

Just patch it all up before playing and you should be fine.

It had been a year since I played original so remembering exactly where it fit in was troublesome (I went back and read a synopsis to catch me up too after realising I forgot a lot of the little stuff). The sequel does work at answering some of the unanswered questions you may have after the main game (avoiding any spoilers)

I enjoyed it (and thankfully lost only a couple of hours to the patch save bug) and platinummed it last week.

So I've got my first ending last night, somewhat abruptly, namely the Suzuha one.

I'm a bit unsure now how to proceed but I want to see all the other endings... took a quick peek at the flowchart posted on a previous page in this thread, what endings should I go for in what order?

I have a number of game saves (about 3 pages worth I believe) scattered across most chapters, where should I jump in to get as many 'easy' endings as possible without having to go through the whole thing again?

@KnuttinAtoll From memory, there would have been something you would have had to choose with her, which I think is for her to go back in the time machine or to stay, so if you reload the nearest one before that and choose the other choice and it'll move onto the next chapter :) From there, you'll see a pattern of sorts with how to get the character specific endings, then when you're stuck right at the end look at the guide.

Don't forget too that you can use the skip dialogue option, where it will automatically skip anything you've read previously but then stop skipping as soon as new text arrives.

    Hope that makes sense...!

@Humperfunk Thanks! I'll give that a go, and yes that makes sense (I think!). I presume it's best to do this now while my memories of most chapters are still fresh - have been playing this solidly most evenings with nothing else on the Vita over the past few weeks.

Well, this thread is in the wrong subsection now that Vita is dead for this series. Steins;Gate Elite out next year for PS4 and Switch from Spike Chunsoft, doesn't really interest me too much as it seems to be a mix of the anime and original game (with possibly less content). However the PS4 version is coming with Linear Bounded Phenogram officially translated for the first time (a bunch of SG short stories I gather) so tempted by that. Switch is getting its own new version of SG 8Bit (NES style so not the same as the original PC 8bit game). I hear the NSW 8bit game may be very short though.

On an alternative note, fans of Steins;Gate and visual novels of this ilk (ie, not romancey ones) need to check out the recently released 428:Shibuya Scramble on PS4 and PC. Long awaited port and first translation of a well received (originally on Wii) VN. Different style to your SGs and Science Adventure series with all the backgrounds being photographs and actors (who were filmed live but the game is mostly still shots). No voice acting (which always made the titles of 'sound novel' seem a little odd to me). A lot more 'gameplay' than SG with about 80 bad endings and five concurrent stories running that you switch between and make choices that affect other routes. More choose your own adventure in play.

Story is fun and is pretty well translated (a few minor typos but probably better than the last few PQube titles for mistakes), by the same localisation team as Phoenix Wright, Vagrant Story and FFXII. Story is quite fun too with a different feel for each character. I haven't quite finished the main plot yet but almost done and I hear there are quite a few bonus scenarios to go. I am guessing this is going to sell poorly but hopefully it will do well enough for us to get Machi (pseudo prequel to this) too. PS4 has both a physical release and a demo available. I would give it its own thread but I imagine it would be DOA to be honest and imagine people who like SG, CC etc would like this so thought I would bring it up for those who have missed its release. It is possibly going to be my GOTY for 2018 too. Main scenarios should be around 30 hours or so (been going for all bad endings but missed a fair few).

Not tried many of the more recent Vita VNs as polishing off the very long Utawarerumono (which is a lot more clichey anime and may not appeal as much to SG fans) but have Punch Line (same writer as Zero Escape series) amongst others on the to do list

Steins;Gate Elite is on Vita in Japan, isn't it getting a Western release? I'm quite tempted to grab it while I'm here visiting, even if it is just a rehash of what's gone before.

Just finished the anime and I'm inloooove with it. So thinking giving the game a try.
  • Deleted user 23 October 2018 08:51:12
@Ressie do it, you have to do it and get the true (best ending), Mayuri is bestest.

Ignore Ror, he doesnt know what he is talking about and clearly not a real steins gate fan.

There is a switch version (elite) coming next year btw.
