Fuck me it's good that Germany can't finish for shit. It's been a bit of a woeful game.

Whatever gets the job done. :) Shite game. Hopefully the Yanks will put on something against the turgid Japanese.

"It's special to be talked about even in the same breath as the team from 1966," added Sampson. "There are moments from that tournament back in '66, the Hurst hat-trick, the Bobby Moore tackle, and the players will be remembered forever for some of the moments in this tournament."
Err, not the best demonstration of correctly remembering something forever.

I know they finished third, but it really isn't close to the achievement in 1990. That tournament was full of quality teams and we really were good. This one has been full of shite and we've bundled our way through.

Only once they reached the semi finals did the English media, so desperate for any national team football success, start talking about the women's team's progress as though they are in any way related.

Men's and women's achievements aren't directly comparable in any sport, and doing so isn't helpful to their development.

The tournament has had two teams... Germany and USA. Everyone else has been awful. This has been on the cards, like the Brazilian defeat last year.
  • Deleted user 6 July 2015 00:21:16
If a Brazilian had done that, we'd have all wondered what a Brazilian man was doing on the pitch in a game between the USA and Japan women's teams.

I think this puts into perspective the fawning over England a bit. They struggled to break down this Japan team, and they were utter shite in that game as well.

I wonder if there's ever been a goal from the halfway line in a WC final before :D

I really am wondering whether Messi couldn't take either of these teams on by himself. Definitely the Japanese. Quite possibly the Yanks too.

German commenter is pretty good, other than her idiot lads' counterparts she only comments what's happening, instead of reciting random trivia of the players' lives that no one gives a shit about

Heh, meanwhile us Brits had to hear a cheery anecdote about how Hope Solo was kidnapped as a child or some shit.

To be fair, I zapped in relatively late into the game, so I don't know what she said before

The long wait is over for the U.S. women's national team. After a long 12 year drought they life the cup once again!
