    Hi,

I'm trying to root my missus' Xperia Z3. It should be quite simple but she bought it in China and the model number is L55U whereas all the guides are for 66**. I have founde a guide to change it to 66** but I'm a little unsure...

    The guide is http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/how-to-convert-l55u-to-d6633-t2952105

What I am unsure of is whether I need to have the bootloader unlocked before I do this or not. I have rooted a phone before but it was a long time ago and I am not really a very techy person... :(

    Anyone know anything about this?

    thx!

I rooted my wife's Z1 compact and it didn't need faffing with the boot loader... Though this was kit kat.

I think there's a difference depending if you just want root or want to install a custom recovery and roms.

Can't you just go to the local phone store and have them do it?

Googling a bit it appears that the D6633 supports the necessary FD-LTE bands.

But I can't find any information on the boot loader in English for the L55u.

Despite having quite a lot of confidence in rooting phones I'd follow Tonka's advice as there isn't enough info in English.

    Cheers guys,

Yeah, I think taking it into a shop is the best option.
