    From the BBC

Quite useful. I only have a choice of 3 candidates and the Tory bloke had almost 50% of the vote last time.

Seems that the raising of the deposit from £500 to £5000 has made standing for the elections for the rich only.

Bollocks. Looks like I'm in a nice safe Tory seat.

    Same here, 46% tory, gah!

    Although:

"This is a wealthy and comfortable part of the world with high levels of employment and the lowest proportion of council housing in the entire country."

    Didn't know that, heh.

Maidenhead is Lib Dem target seat no 16 apparently.
Apparently in 1997 conservatives had a 23% majority and in 2001 it was down to about 7%. Labour don't even get a look-in

Safe Tory seat for me, not too surprising really, I didn't know that only Conservatives had been returned since 1918 though.

Labour majority at home, but at work the "Respect-Unity Coalition" got 6.4% of the votes. Who are they?

    Labour 61.2%
    Conservative 19.8%

Looks like a safe seat, probably no need to vote (but I will anyway).
  • Deleted user 14 April 2005 14:17:02
    Dammit!
    Labour 58.9%
    Conservative 30.8%
    Liberal Democrat 7.0%
    Others 3.3%

Edmonton was a battleground seat in 1997. After narrowly failing to win it in 1992 from the incumbent Conservative Ian Twinn, Labour's Andy Love polled twice the number of votes as Dr Twinn in 1997 to win the seat with a 30% majority. In 2001 his vote share dropped slightly but he still has a 28% gap over the Tories.

However, the area looks set for a boost with the arrival of the latest Ikea store in 2005. There will also be considerable benefits if the Olympic Games come to London in 2012.

    Bloody Labour bastard!

    Hey - we've got a Veritas candidate!

He's called Dai Davies. Surely 'Dai Foreigner' would've been a better name? :-D

    Worcestershire Mid:

    51.1% Conservative
    27.4% Labour
    18.8% Liberal Democrat

    :(

However, right next door is the Wyre Forest; the only constituency in England not to be won last time by one of the three main parties. The IKHH won it purely on the issue of keeping Kidderminster Hospital open.

    Cheers Ssuellid, very interesting.

    53% Labour

"...was notable in the 2001 General Election as the seat which the Tories needed to gain to command an overall majority in the House of Commons. In the event, Labour retained it by 7,359 votes."

    Don't recall that!

"..The most significant ongoing issue has been the future of the Rover plant at Longbridge. The constituency is on the plant's doorstep and many middle-managers who work there live in Halesowen. Any further restructuring could have major political consequences in this and other constituencies."

They just announced its imminent closure the other day. Uh oh, I hope that doesn't mean the Tories will get all the resulting anti-Labour votes.

Interesting. I haven't got a respect candidate, but I have got a socialist labour party one though. If I don't fancy voting for a real party that is.

Well that just proves that Respect are muppets. They pushed a pamphlet through my door the other day for a candidate in the next ward, not my own.

Oooh, and we have a Socialist Labour Party candidate!

"...is the oldest of the four royal boroughs in England and Wales. Seven Anglo-Saxon kings were crowned here and the Coronation Stone, which now sits outside the Guildhall, marks this with a silver penny denoting the reign of each of the kings."

Tell that to thugs out on a friday/saturday.

"For the most part this is white, owner-occupied, commuter suburbia."

Yep, everyone hates everyone else and you'll get a scowl if you don't jam on that train as soon as the doors open. Sigh.

    Labour 54.5%
    SNP 17.8%
    Liberal Democrat 14.3%
    Others 13.4%

2001 Result (notional): Won by LAB, majority 36.6%

"This constituency comprises the whole of the old Dunfermline West seat, including two wards that were shared with the old Dunfermline East seat, with the addition of four wards from the old Dunfermline East seat. The seat stretches along the north bank of the Firth of Forth from west of the Kincardine Bridge to east of the Forth Road Bridge. Dunfermline - birthplace of Andrew Carnegie - was once Scotland's capital and eight kings are buried there, amongst them Robert the Bruce. The closure of the Rosyth naval base and the decline in the neighbouring dockyard has posed major difficulties for the area. However, the new Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry link established in 2002 has provided a much welcome boost. Away from industry, the seat is home to the beautiful village of Culross. Almost the entire village is a living museum, as all the 16th or 17th century pan-tiled houses with their crow-step gables have been carefully restored."

Although I'm still amused by the fact that UKIP are putting up a candidate... someone's clearly overly optimistic or is operating under the mistaken impression that ex-military personnel might be more willing than most to vote UKIP - rather ignoring that the wards with the highest concentration of ex-military routinely return SNP councillors.

I have candidates from the 'Socialisty Alternative' and 'Peace' parties.

Give those a wide berth methinks.

Safe labour for me (12.6 margin) and was the first ever Labour seat in Sussex. Fasinating.
