Pleasent surprise from Microsoft here! Don't have either the ps4 or the one yet and have been wondering which one to purchase. This may have just swung it for me. EDIT: Balls! can a mod change the title please to Xbox Edited by richarddavies at 17:55:33 15-06-2015 |

Registered 12 years agoLOL.
They've been hard at work, clearly.
I'd be interested in knowing how they've emulated the Tri-core PPC CPU on the AMD chip.
I reckon the GPU is assisting.

Registered 12 years ago... in fact, they'll be recompiling, no? Having an Internet connection means that they can just send a new exe to the console and use the assets from the disk.
I reckon it might not even use the disk, as this generation's so download-happy.
We'll see. -

Registered 13 years agoThey said it requires no work from the developers so it must just be emulation. -

Registered 12 years agoSo can anyone test it out then? I'm not a preview member anymore (all the constant updates were bothering me). I wonder how well it works, though. -

Registered 13 years agoThe last Preview update was on Friday and it doesn't work on that version, I guess they're planning to release another update today to enable it. -

Registered 12 years agoHmmm... I guess that Direct X + recompile could mean that MICROSOFT is just doing all of the work?
I'd have to take a look at how much would be involved, and what's most likely.
That Xbox 360 CPU is pretty decent. Not Cell + RAM + optimal code fast, but still... -

I wonder when the preview update will be rolled out? I guess it'll be US first, then everybody else. -

Registered 6 years agoWell, if all my games come to this and I only need the disc for the initial download I might very well get the console as I could then sell my 360 and all the games...
Would have to get the 1TB console or hefty external HDD (which evr works out cheaper). -

Registered 6 years ago@Loefah Too bad... but i guess it makes sense, otherwisse everyone would just lend their games to their mates and we'd all have every game! -

Registered 6 years ago@Keyb0ardasaurus This is an extremely smart move from Microsoft aimed specifically at people who DIDN'T move to the current generation as early as you did. Granted it would have at least reduced the divide between the two if MS had done this from the start, but it seems more like a clever play they've made in response to their poor launch than something they planned all along.
It's tailor made for those with a large backlog who haven't made the leap to current gen, and pretty much guarantees I'll stay with Xbox when I was having doubts until now. -

Great strategy, as long as a decent number of games run well.
I can't see some of my essentials coming over due to licensing and other guff, so I reckon my 360 will stay for a while yet.
I really hope that I'm proven wrong.

Registered 5 years ago@hedben2013 And then end up regretting it when they don't touch any of those games after the first month or 2.
Unless you're the type of person that'll go back and play things over and over this really shouldn't make a difference.
It's one of them things thats nice to have but in reality you really wouldn't notice if it's gone.
Doesn't mean I think you're wrong there will be people out there who will be swayed by this, it just does nothing for me is all. -

Things quite often get de-listed due to licence agreements expiring, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Registered 12 years agoI think this is great news. Due to plenty of sales but increasingly little free time, I've got quite a backlog of 360 games I'd love to return to. None on the list so far however 😉 -

Registered 6 years agoHad a play with Super Meat Boy and Defense Grid last night, amazed at how well it works. Once you do the first 'getting 360 information thing) every game you play from then on just plays like an Xbox One game, really good work by Microsoft. Really hope they manage to put on Guitar Hero and Rock Band, would quite like to play them over the Summer until the new ones come out. -
So ...
FINALLY GETTING SOME GAMES THEN!!!
