@Malek86 Who owns the rights to that anyway?

@robthehermit Namco, I guess, since they published it in every territory.

Game Republic doesn't exist anymore, and I doubt they had control of the property anyway.

Unfortunately Namco is one of the least enthusiastic publishers when it comes to the BC program, at least in regards to non-XBLA games.

Ah, so apparently people were wondering about this:

    https://majornelson.com/2018/10/18/classic-valve-titles-now-in-enhanced-xbox-360-backward-compatibility-collection/

Half Life 2 Orange Box, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, and Portal (not the second one) are now available in X Enhanced form.

Holy Moley, that's a nice surprise. Unfortunately I think I sold off my copy of Orange Box. :(

I got Orange Box back when it was free with Gold.

Even so... this is actually a bit underwhelming. If I had an X, I'd still be more interested in seeing either games that aren't available on PC, or at least that aren't easy to run in 4K mode.

These Source games are among the easiest to run in 4K, due to their future-proofed engine, and don't exactly require a monster PC either nowadays. So it's a bit redundant if you asked me.

Explain yourself sir, Orange box has, to my knowledge, never been free with gold:

Mmh, now that I remember well, I grabbed it when it was on one of those big Xbox sales, probably together with Far Cry Instincts Predator.

Honestly, they have given out so many games since the start of the service, looks like I can't even keep track of what they all were.

Yeah same. If it weren't for wikipedia I wouldn't remember anything.

Hopefully I'll get home and find that I kept it as resale value at CEX would have been pitiful...

What that's fucking great news. One of my fave games.

Out of curiosity, how are the X360 versions of these games compared to PC? I bought HL2 on PC at launch and completed it, but never bought the subsequent episodes. I also played and completed Portal and have L4D2 on Steam.

However, whilst ancient gaming laptop can play all those games at 1080p 60hz with all the bells, 4K is off the table. Wouldn't mind some L4D2 action on my 4K TV in the living room if the X360 version was decent and still has active players?

Portal 2 has been X enhanced for a while now. I keep waiting for it to go on sale but it never does.

@AddyJB 4K, anisotropic and some other small stuff, most likely. I'm not expecting a miracle.

That said, the 360 version of Half-Life 2, EP1 and EP2 already looked better than the PC version, because when Valve ported the games it also applied the engine enhancements from EP2 to the entire trilogy. I was always a bit surprised that they didn't do the same to the old PC versions, but I guess it wasn't a priority.

Original Mass Effect at 4K with a stable framerate and v sync would win any "most improved" X enhanced category. Unless Mass Effect 2 was there, but that had much more stable performance to begin with. ME1 really is janky as fuck.

    @Malek86

Yeah that's cool. To be honest it's that long since I've played it I probably wouldn't be disappointed with it visually.

Some of the OG Xbox games have been seriously enhanced too. Republic Commando looks like a different game.

@DUFFMAN5 Konami must have printed a very low run of the 360 versaion, because even with all the unpatched bugs, it still commands a pretty decent price on ebay.

At this point, I'm kinda hoping SH2 gets added on the OG Xbox program instead. At least it would have the fog.

Lego Star Wars 2 and Tropico 4 added.

I hope the upcoming November event will feature a new batch of OG Xbox games.

Maybe they will announce that automagically they have found a way to X enchant every single Xbox and xbox 360 title.

Silly question I bet but my son just bought Halo: Reach for the 360 and has been playing it fine on the Xbox One but he can't save (he says)

How does one save a 360 game on the XB1? Does he need to do a manual save everytime?

@Farley2k should save automatically on the cloud. That means, however, that you need to be online.

If you're offline it should just save to the console. I played a whole bunch of Reach when I had an internet outage once and I didn't have any issues playing offline.

The only thing I'd say is that you do have to Save and Quit in Reach. I don't think it auto-saves during campaign. If you don't Save and Quit, it won't let you go to Continue next time, though it should let you manually select the start of the level you got up to.
