Registered 14 years agoI'm really starting to think that the X1 doesn't like my review copy of Splinter Cell. It worked fine on the 360, but maybe that console didn't have as many checks?
I'll give them another while to sort things out, then I'll... order another copy? I really need my SC1 fix. -

Gah! I was too late, my local branch have sold it and the price has gone up to £3 now understandably. I just ordered one off Amazon for £3 (a little over the odds I know) but presumably it was more expensive as it was for Prime next day delivery.
@Rodney I'd be interested to know that too, guess you'll know soon, apparently my local CEX has a copy in stock for 50p! Will pop along tomorrow. -

I've been trying several times, it still doesn't work. In these cases I usually have to wait just a couple hours or maybe reinsert the disc, no dice here.

The disc is in great condition (as it should be, I try keep my games as pristine as I can). Every other disc works just fine, so it's not the drive either. I'm running out of ideas. -

Just to clarify, that is the whole game. BC games don't run off the disc, it prompts a full, compatible download of the game (the disc still needs to be in the drive while playing, to act as a license).
I dug out my old Splinter Cell disc, complete with £45 price tag circa 2002, and my Xbox started installing a 4.5 gig patch which must be pretty much the whole game.
I know it's getting a resolution bump but does anyone know if it's in a 16:9 aspect ratio too? The patch is still downloading.
I'm curious to see how the graphics hold up. -

Registered 10 years agoWell I’ve gone back and tried perfect dark zero, kameo and now perfect dark.
The results are visually decent, zero looks much cleaner but frame rate is still a bit iffy, Kameo looks nice but the textures aren’t great, pd looks very sharp and crisp and runs well from what I can see. -

Registered 14 years agoPerfect Dark was already 1080p60 as far as I can remember (good thing too, it's a freaking N64 game). Since these enhanced versions usually run at 3x the resolution, I wonder if it actually is above 4K. -

Registered 15 years agoPlayed Sphinx, Armed & Dangerous and Indiana Jones and they all look fantastic, particularly Sphinx which can easily pass for a 360 title, the only thing letting it down (& has been an issue for me since first playing it way back) is the complete lack of voice acting - the characters lips move and the subtitles move in time with their lips but there is no sound, it takes you out the game - even some sound effects like the early LEGO games would have been an improvement
With Armed & Dangerous the big gain is the frame rate as I recall it was always a bit variable but now its so much smoother
Enjoying Indiana Jones as it's old school Tomb Raider
Anyone having issues with the 360 marketplace with some of the previously released OG Xbox games - Black, Crimson Skies not being recognised as already bought and wanting to charge £8.99 again? They are not also showing the compatible with XBox One tile
I'm guessing this may either be new versions released to allow DLC to be incorporated (although Black doesn't have any), or updated versions of the games
Also this weeks OG XBox games don't install on the 360 - they fully downloaded then fail to install - I have noticed that the original Xbox B/C database stored on the 360 hard drive has not been updated since last years batch of titles and guess this may be the cause
Gutted to see the end of the B/C programme - I hope that once Project Scarlett is released the b/c team will go back & add more OG & 360 titles (of course ideally it will be so powerful that this generations recompliling work-around will not be needed & games will just work off the disc)
Any ideas how OG DLC will work or when it will be available? - is it incorporated into new versions of the game or as separate DLC to be downloaded off the marketplace or even just a title update? -

Registered 6 years agoSad to see the end of BC. That means no more possibility of Max Payne 1 & 2... (at least until they hopefully restart the program with Scarlett).
At least we finally got the original Splinter Cell trilogy though. -

Registered 17 years agoSo my copy of Splinter Cell 1 arrived today, looking forward to installing it tonight (fingers crossed it works) it also has the bonus disc with three extra missions, anyone know if this disc will install too? -

Registered 14 years agoJust switched the region to UK (you never know), and now the console has found an OS update.
Let's hope it does the trick. -
I can't believe F.E.A.R. isn't backwards compatible yet. -
@ChiefGB
Is Perfect Dark Zero any good? I loved the original but found the first level in Zero to be awful so never went back to it. -

Well, I'm officially out of solutions. I'll have to check the listing for a cheap copy. -

Registered 10 years agoStoryline is nonsensical, but it does have that multi difficulty, multi objective style with some limited replay ability and can be played on co-op. It’s hardly top of its class in that area or any though.
In short I wouldn’t worry too much about revisiting. -

Registered 12 years agoIt's got a few good levels, but overall it's not great. For a launch game it wasn't bad, but when it's a sequel to Perfect Dark, that's not good enough.
I'd love it to come back as a Deus Ex/Dishonoured mash-up.
EDIT Sequel = follow-up, you know what I mean.

Registered 8 years agoNo, I've heard about Core, but that was like 10 years ago. They've just let that IP rot. -

Registered 12 years agoAh, fair play. I get the feeling that after that concept went nowhere they just put it on the backburner. There have been rumours about a new one for a couple of years now, and Alanah Pearce (ex-IGN) said she'd heard one was in the works, so I imagine MS are at least thinking about what they want to do with the IP. -

Registered 14 years agoI think MS maybe jumped the gun a bit with OG Xbox backwards compatibility. I imagine that each game required a lot more work than the 360 titles - perhaps too much for too little return? It's cool that we got PDO and the Splinter Cell games, but if you look at the 360 catalogue, we could have got so much more.
Sony has also effectively ended their PS2 porting efforts, which makes me think there just wasn't enough excitement about these old games.

Registered 12 years agoThey did say when they announced it that it'd be a far smaller batch of games. They probably thought they could get more done, though. -

Registered 10 years agoI’d be all for another perfect dark, well, if done right. Yes zero has a few good levels but really it’s a bit of a mess and was clearly chopped into pieces and stuck back together again, only I think they left a few pieces on the floor. -
Tried Chaos Theory.
When's this movie coming out?? I hear Tom Hardy might play Fisher....
