Registered 10 years ago@Humperfunk It is the fourth ME game, but not called ME4 as it's probably not gonna have anything to do with the previous three games. -

Registered 10 years ago@Humperfunk The most probable backstory for this game is called "Ark Theory". It says that the Council species sent an ark to another galaxy during the events of ME3 in case we'd lose the war against the Reapers.
And now we're in the Andromeda galaxy (hence the name of the game), thousands of years after the events of ME3 (whose ending only has galaxy-, but not universe-wide ramifications, so there's no need to choose a canon ending), searching for a new home.

Registered 10 years agoFirst details from the BioWare Blog:
- it's "taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy"
- "you will play a human, male or female", so sadly no playable alien races
- the character in the trailer is not the player, although they don't explain any further
- the trailer is done in Frostbite and represents the "visual target for the final game"
- they are putting their "entire focus on PC and current gen consoles", so PS4, XBO, PC
And a nice picture to end the blog post:

EDIT: another picture from Twitter:

darn, was hoping they'd take inspiration from Dragon Age and allow multiple playable races. I guess it means this new series (trilogy?) of ME games will be just as story driven around a central human character and humanities wider role in galactic events as the originals.
The character in the trailer is wearing Specter N7 armour, but they've said it's not the main character... We might be thinking ally, but maybe he's an antagonist like Saren?
Anyway, new Mass Effect \o/ one of my favourite game series ever. So glad to see it coming back, it's just a shame the end of 2016 is so far away! -

Registered 10 years agomasseffect.com has been updated. Right now the only contents are the teaser trailer and a newsletter signup form.
Who signs up for newsletters such as these nowadays anyway? When they actually do send out any such e-mail, the news has already been leaked, officially announced, corrected, retracted and amended twice. -

...because it's a dromedary... like Andromeda... I'm sorry, I'm exhausted from watching all those live streams. -

Registered 10 years agoNew details from an interview over at Ars Technica:
- focus on having a squad and comraderie, like in previous games, that's what N7 stands for
- they talk about having instant access to Frostbite tech developed in other EA studios and mention the face-scanning technique from the new NBA game as an example. When pressed if ME:A will support that: "We can’t talk about that yet"
- they are working with the Need For Speed team on the driving mechanics for the Mako
- combat will be more like ME3 than ME1, but with more RPG elements
- they have not casted a single character
- they have "nothing to announce" in regards to previous characters returning. No straight denial though.
- they regretted that the ME trilogy spanned the entire Milky Way galaxy, so ME:A will be on a smaller scale, but still massive to explore
- "I don’t think we can get into that" on how the characters got to the Andromeda galaxy without relays
- "We can’t comment on that yet" when asked if there will be something like a Dragon Age Keep to import choices from the previous games, or if those choices will play a role in ME:A at all -
Cool! -

Mark my words, it'll be halfwit Captain Janeway again, being so useless she's now losing ships from completely different franchises.

Why does the woman have a sexy wiggle?

I adored me1, 2 and 3 all the way until the last five minutes and that five minutes destroyed the previous 120+ hours I'd played. I still am unsure how an ending could be so utterly shit when the stuff before was excellent.
