Morning Gearheads

So we have seen GoW4 in action, at least scripted action for the most part but still.
I thought it looked lovely albeit very dark in lighting and mood. Had a RE vibe to me, but then I always thought the original Gears owed a lot to survival horror. I think this will return to those roots, which is all good.

Loved the Gears sounds, the gun looked and sounded like it should, active reload of course. As for our two Gears, seemed ok. I assume we are not getting Marcus,Cole or the others ? I can't find if that has been confirmed. Maybe they will have a cameo (word up)

If we are not getting them as playable in single campaign, I assume we will in mp/horde ?
Speaking of Horde, looking forward to that I hope we get more bosses from the complete Gears canon.

I will be a bit gutted if the "gang" are not in the game, time lines be damned, Master Chief is in at least 5 Halo games, might be more I'm not a massive Halo geek/nerd, I have enough trouble with all my other nerd activities

Anyway can't wait.

I DONT sell Gears. It is the one franchise that is safe from my willy-nilly buy,sell,rebuy cycle. To prove it I still have GoWJ I think that makes about 3 of us in the world.

Haha fair enough! Gears 4 looked good.

I've still got Gears 1,2,3. Be surprised if they are three of the 100 or so backwards compatible titles given that they have the remaster coming but who knows.

What a day for Gears news. \o/

I really hope this is a bit bleaker like 1. I loved 3 the most due to all the mp modes, and the 4 player co-op.

The original's vibe was far more 'backs against the wall' with humanity trying to survive than the more gung-ho nature of 3.

I just want RF to confirm 4 player co-op, the demo was only 2 Gears. Oh I would also like him to confirm Horde 3.0...it's not much to ask

There surely has to be horde Duff. T'was one of the best additions in co-op gaming from 2 on.

I would like Horde, Beast, Free For All, TDM, KOTH, Execution, Domination, Survival, Annex, Overrun, Capture the Leader, Guardian, War zone, Wingman and 8 player co-op.

Now that's not too much to ask!

I think they mean then campaign will be two player only - but yeah can't see them leaving out a four player horde mode.

I think going back to two player campaign will be good - Gears 3 was amazing with four player but preferred the first two (can't remember if 2 had four player? Don't think it did...)

Really pleased with getting them all backward compatible too - can't find my copy of Judgement anywhere and was considering playing it before BC was announced so that is superb. Also any excuse to play Gears 2 again

Yeah only Gears 3 was four-player. By the sounds of the tone they want 4 players might be a bit too much style-wise, and perhaps there're tech issues too.

As long as Horde is 4+ co-op and big, badass and totally stupid, fine.

There's plenty of Gears stuff. Books, Meccano sets (I've got a Centaur one), comics, Funko Pops, at least 1 board game and at one point talk of a film. There's always lots of tat and expanded universe stuff for popular franchises

Indeed, and I have a lot of it

I have a few Gears figures (yes, they are figures!), too - a Gears 2 Marcus, a Gears 3 Marcus and a big, foot-tall one that used to say some of his Gears 1 soundbites ("Back in your hole!", "Bring it!", "Nice!", etc). I also have, and really enjoyed all the books. In fact, I sent a tweet to Rod earlier asking if there will be any new books to tie in to Gears 4.

I wonder if we'll find out more about Gears 4 at this MS event next week. I hope so.

I have all the figures, actually not quite all and books, ltd console and pads etc. I do not know of any Funko's though, in fact I posted about that very subject on the The Coalition's Gearsofwar forum.

For a major franchise there is not as much as you would think/hope.

I suppose they don't have a dedicated franchise handling team like 343 started out as dealing with all the licencing stuff and getting us a Nerf Lancer.

I do apologise though, it's entirely possible the Funko things I saw were custom ones someone made. I'd have sworn I saw them in GAME (at double RRP obviously) but I can't find them now so I must've remembered incorrectly. Sorry!

Shame that Karen Traviss has confirmed that, I thought she did a bloody good job with her novels. She wrote my favourite books in the Halo series, too.
