Registered 15 years agoSounds logical. there is simply no need for full cpu speed with 1st generation games, and gamers will welcome the better battery life.
/doesnt understand the fuss about batteries considering it uses a rechargeable pack, and extra packs can be bought extra -
the story is all wrong anyway.
you can adjust the clock speed in real-time, but the original firmware had a glitch which stopped you being able to clock it any lower than a certain mhz (can't remember it off the top of my head) which basically means all the menus which should of run at a uber-slow clock speed ended up eating up more battery life than intended as the speed change would fail and it'd jump back to 160mhz or whatever it was, the firmware update fix's this so people should get better battery life in future generation games.
you can still clock it upto the maximum speed. but no games have yet because of the battery life issue. once they release a bigger battery you can be sure you'll suddenly get nicer looking games.

Or rather, because Sony's TRCs forbid you from doing so. They simply won't approve any game that goes over 222mhz for release right now. It's not a choice developers are making voluntarily. -
Yup, because you underclock it by limiting the system bus speed which also underclocks the GPU, see? they are tied together. -

So let me get this right.... the PSP's battery life will get worse as the games get better? So as people want to play for longer, they won't be able to?
Genius. -

Registered 16 years agoWell, one would assume Sony would only revise the agreement terms once they've overcome the battery life and possible overheating problems.
Though if it is an overheating problem, I can't see how they'd improve that without a massive recall. The suggestion of overheating came from the gameradar story though, so it's probably just a battery issue. -

Registered 14 years agoHaving reread my post I realise I sounded a bit stupid - I do understand computery things, don't worry
I didn't realise they were releasing a new battery. I suppose that will help. Just a shame that Sony haven't concentrated on the things that are really important to a handheld - controls and battery life (I think the analogue stick is awful, for the record).
I look forward to seeing what will happen to the PSP, but for me, having to carry around several spare batteries sounds a bit rubbish. -
