I loved OOT and probably would stick it in my top 10 games list of all time but Wind Waker just seems so dull and boring so far. From the long winded legend telling at the beginning onwards I have struggled to not just turn it off. Looks pretty, control systems nice, camera is iffy but it does not have me hooked. Anyone else the same?

Glad it's not just me then.

I will quite happily watch the other half play through it, but for me, it's got exactly the same thing wrong with it that Mario Sunshine had...it's frustrating camera-wise, there's no fucking JUMP for fucksake (and that would make some of the puzzles even easier than they are!) and tbh I'm more than a bit sick of cute, I want blood, I want gore, I want high energy weapons discharged in confined spaces..better go back to metroid I guess.

I think it's great. And so does my other half, which means I can get away with playing it more - hurrah!

Well, I haven't got particularly far in compared to others on this forum (I haven't got the Wind Waker yet, anyway), but it feels nice enough so far. The story isn't "Final Fantasy VII"-level gripping in its early stages, but there's enough to keep me wanting to see what comes next.

    I would've liked a jump button though.

The camera in Zelda is not as bad as Mario's.
In Zelda, once you set the camera position it stays fixed, whereas in Mario you set the camera and run to the left or right side of the screen and the camera would start to reposition itself behind you, you ended up fighting it constantly.

You do know there's a first person view, right?

One of the reasons I like it. Mario's jumping is a bitch, this is much nicer. If I can't make a jump I know because it isn't possible, not because I didn't hit the button at the right time.

(and that would make some of the puzzles even easier than they are!)

Had one problem, so far, on the Dragon island (didn't know what to do after I'd helped the girl fly up to the other side of the cavern), but since then they haven't been that taxing.

Enjoying it myself but I do have a few complaints with it that I won't go into. I will mention the really crapy AI given to Medii (name is something like that) which is why they must have added the 'Command' wind waker spell.

Anyone know how to get into the sodding Wind Sage dungeon? Done the Earth Sage (hence Medii problems) so have the mirror shield

I just got past that part on Dragon Island... it's definitely one of those Joey Deacon/slap the forehead for being such a spacker moments... I'm expecting a lot more throughout the game... (How good is the heat/wind/ash effect on that bit?! Gorgeous.)

I had a fight with one sub-boss where the camera got stuck behind a tree and I couldn't see a thing, which is crap, but on the whole the camera is pretty good. Wish you could go to first-person view on the ship tho.

Only gripes I got with the cam, is after crawling through a hole and then trying to come out, the camera switches and you find yourself going backwards into the hole again while pusing in the same direction

i did not like this game. i am a huge fan of oot and MM and a lttp but TWW left me cold (kinda like that sentence).

im going to do my best to keep this spoiler free....

it looks lovely and all of the zelda elements are there but there is something missing (and i dont think its the nintendo fanboy rant about 'being older than the target audience blah blah missing the beauty of it blah blah...) it has an awful story, the script is terrible and it has none of the darkness which MM had. the boat, while initially nice too look at, turns into a total chore-fest.

the wind waker itself is vile, why bother guys? why not just keep the ocarina or give link a flute or something... but a phu*king stick?

the game has many redeeming qualities but as a whole it lacks 'the hook'.

Indeed. I was very impressed. That entire room is lovely. The wind, the ash, the ash on the water... Its a beautiful game, although the Forbidden Forest kind of sucked, by comparison. Looked like they couldn't be arsed and rushed it.

I have to kind of agree on this. Not so much on the idea of it, but the fact that you really don't need to hit the notes on the right beat. I discovered you can simply hold down the direction. Kind of lame.

Throwing pigs into the sea is excellent fun... Cheers Shirubagan for that tip..

Recently, I have been mostly attempting to get pigs stuck in the remotest place possible (i.e. trees, rooftops) and/or throw them from the highest place on the map. I also plan to kidnap (pignap?) one and throw it out in the middle of the ocean.

    Mwa-ha-ha!

    [SMALL SPOILERS]
I think I kind of know what you mean, ssuelid, though I'm definitely swinging back the other way having got a bit further. The story starts off very understated, unlike OoT with it's 'you're our only hope' opening. But that works quite well really because it's not like Link starts off being a hero - he turns into a hero by right of having beaten off Ganondorf's minions. In fact, a lot more consideration seems to have gone into the motivation of all the characters in this game.

So yeah, I started off thinking 'why should I care?' but it's definitely getting a bit epic now.
    [END SMALL SPOILERS]

The camera's actually pretty OoT like if you only use the left trigger to center it in the main. That's what I use the vast majority of the time. Still gets stuck behind trees occasionally, but the camera in OoT did that too.

That was a killer in OoT too, but you get used to it after a while. Still, I don't think I've got the hang of swinging on ropes properly. Which way are you meant to push and when? I once managed to get him swinging wildly by randomly spinning the stick, though that may have been a glitch.

Loved OOT and MM, but haven't even bothered buying this. Since binning SMS I've lost faith in the Nintendo stuff. I got all 120 stars on SMS64, and SMS was just a travesty, Like someone mentioned in this thread about TWW, there was just no hook. So far, I've not had one game for the cube which has made me want to switch it back on.

You push in the direction he's going as he's going there. In otherwords, with a side view, push left, as he swings left, and right as he swings right. For a behind/front view... well I'm sure you can figure it out. :)

metroid hooked me when the game finally fell into place (after i had been to all the areas) and i had to search for the artifacts. meta ripley is now a memory and now the hook is gone....:(

but back onto zelda, i do hear rumours that the game gets much better towards the end and everything becomes clear but jeez louise!

i have just recently completed planescape:torment and THAT is an example of story quality and pacing! and its a point and click adventure! imagine that, excellent pacing in a point and click adventure. now that is genius!

The story reminds me of Skies of Arcadia in a few ways too, which may make me slightly more appreciative of it, but I loved that story in SoA.

On a basic level there's the brother and sister thing and the sailing between islands thing, but I specifically loved the way the story unfolded and the threat from the evil empire gradually made itself known. It's looking to be just as well structured in TWW - better than OoT's story opening in lots of ways. Plus there's so many different characters in this one each doing their own thang - the place seems a lot more alive in terms of people.

Last time I played PS:T, it was an RPG, but well, we can agree it's one heck of a game.

F..ks sake. Not enjoying it? Take time away from games if you're not getting a smile out of playing TWW. Seriously.

Spent about 2 hours playing this with the kids on Saturday and loved every minute of it.

I'm enjoying TWW rather a lot but I will say one thing about it that may sound a bit odd, note I've never played a Zelda or Metroid game before the Cube versions, TWW is very similar to Metroid Prime in a lot of ways isn't it? The bosses I've encountered so far especially.

The respawning monsters are sort of similar too...

There's other bits that just seem very familiar as well, I don't think I'm imagining it. :-)

not bothered playing metroid enough to really comment on that whizzo, but i find the similarities to super mario sunshine quite striking. methinks its the hand of shigsy upon them all.

I was thinking the same the other day.

Yeah they have similar gameplay mechanics, but theme and tone are different.

I was also thinking that wouldn't it be wicked if they did a trilogy over the different titles.

Zelda first game - Evil rises and gets put in its box.
SFA - McCloud is on the same planet and accidentally releases the evil at the end while fighting for some higher cause.
Metroid - Samus investigates this long dead planet and puts the evil down once and for all - with a big ass laser beam.

I'd have to second you there Whizzo.
I too am new to ninty consoles and games with the Cube, but i can see the similarities between Zelda and Metroid.
Though i have to say i'm enjoying metroid a whole lot more than zelda...
