Have recently subscribed to EE broadband and its pretty awful for throttling the speeds we get. I read that a VPN should bypass this problem.

Could anyone recommend me a VPN please?

    Thanks.

I've been with EE since the Freeserve days and never really noticed any throttling during that duration. I haven't been monitoring it every second but it has been used for silly amounts of tirrenting and Netflix streaming.

I use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. Very easy to set up and use. Lots of servers, very good speeds and very cheap.Try it out for a month and then cancel the auto sub. You should get a email with a nice discount to take it out for a year. Think i got a years sub for around $25,and it really is a great vpn.

    Also just came across this

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/torguard-vpn-with-dedicated-ip-12-20-for-6-months-recurring-2239177

Torguard are suppose to be one of the top vpn providers around.

That's a heck of a deal mrpon, potentially not the best security-wise according to this, but I'm wary or VPN reviews as the whole market reeks of paid promotion. Bloody complicated too.

I've tried the free version of Zenmate for a few weeks now, seems OK. Not really in a position to recommend it from a technical point of view OP, but it might be worth trying just to see if it helps mitigate the throttling. Though, I'm guessing it throttling is coming in to play then you're possibly torrenting- that's probably going to need a paid for service...

Thanks everyone! I went for PIA. Does anyone know if I can set it up on the EE bright box router, as I have found watching netflix through the Xbox a bit tempremental.

@mrcrumley If you search the forums on PIA there is a guide there on how to set up the vpn through your router/xbox.

Helpfully, PIA seems to support OpenVRT, PPTP and IpSec, which pretty much covers all the bases. Unfortunatley, I can't find anything about the brightbox supporting any sort of VPN - only settings to allow pre-encrypted VPN traffic through.

Luckily, it looks like you can reflash it with OpenWRT if you really want to.
