I'm loving the game but do have some experience of playing and running Vampire about 10 years ago. It's an excellent conversion of the PnP experience but obviously doesn't have party aspects like the paper original.

It's got me interested in taking a look at my second edition stuff and I think I may well pop into my local game shop and have a browse...

The big problem about testing it is just how much you've got to test. Yes, things can go wrong but it isn't like there was a bit they didn't test, it was just that of the 10000 different combinations of objects and stats you happened to have one combination they didn't explicitly test and that might just have caused a bit of a bug. As is always the way with the slightly more open of games, bug fixing can be suprisingly hard to track them all down.

Luckily my game has been very serious bug free.

    kencleary:

well done on completing the game, but seriously, edit your post and take that spoiler out of it.
if you are going to post the ending of a game (regardless if its of halo2 standard) at least try and hide it or mark it as a spoiler.

Got this game a couple of days ago and I'm really enjoying it. The comparisons people have made to Deus Ex (which I loved) are very apt, the only bits that have let it down so far are the general unpolished feel of some of the graphics and cutscenes and the fairly mediocre combat, both of which are easily tolerable for me.

The vampire powers are really cool, as are some of the weapons you get to use. What really makes it class though is the dialoge, some of the characters and the overall storyline are great fun to interact with.

Haven't got near to finishing it yet, but already I'm hoping they make another sequel with a more polished version of the engine. As it is it shows what a missed opportunity Invisible War was, still enjoyed it but IW should have been so much deeper and more of an RPG than it was.

Removed. I didnt really think it was a spoiler though - you're told it several times right from the beginning of the game.

*Shrug* It was hardly unexpected though was it?

May I take though from your comparison of it to Halo 2 that you didn't like the ending? I have to say I found it one of the best i've seen in a computer game - very daring. The more you think about it too the more things click into place. If you check out "C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\Vampire\sound\character\dlg\main characters" it might reveal some more subtleties. ***Warning obviously don't check out that folder unless you enjoy spoiling your ending***

you see, thats the thing, i havent finished it yet and i found your original post to be a pretty bad spoiler.
i refered to halo2 because of a) its very poor ending and b) your original (remaining) sentence.

Fortunately I didn't see the original post but please be very careful when posting potential spoilers, in story based games it can really piss everyone off if things come out while they're still playing.

Patch is out, solves some scripting problems and the CTD at the boat bit at the Society of Leopold. Maybe I'll get my money for sorting out that food critic...

    Save games are unaffected.

Thanks a lot Whizzo, nice. I finally got over the sewers bit the other day, and now it's just great again. I am hoping a sequel is in the works already.

And I love that arrogant girl at the reception at the Red Dragon in Chinatown. Lovely face.

Small tip to those about to venture into Sabbat territory; buy a flamethrower but make sure you keep half a tank left for the final encounter. Makes unlife so much easier.

Luckily my game has been very serious bug free.

It's surprisingly easy to get trapped in a doorway if a box is behind it. I've had to restart a few times because of doorway problems. I've had missions uncompletable due to models disappearing (I checked the Walkthru).

It's a good game but I think that it's too unbalanced and buggy to be classed as great.

i have had this for a while but i only started playing it today because i finally have some free time... this is me just going to bed now from about 1pm!

I have been taking it slow and doing everything i possibly could... right now i just had a crash though

I have been given a mission from the crazy bitch from club asylum... I had to go to the ocean hotel... well, firstly... I CRAPPED my pants with their cheap little script that makes the light at the front door explode :) but when I went to open the door... booted me to the desktop... and I HAVE installed the patch. Guess I'll try it again tommorow unless it's a common problem?

Exploring is fun... I bribed a doctor to give me $75 because I know he's been fucking the other members of staff cus I hacked everyone's computers and read all their emails

    LOL

for 10 quid this is a must buy.

I still haven't got round to completing it, taking my time though and have enjoyed it a lot.

    Would love a sequel.

Forget wooden stakes, silver and holy water; it's double doors that are a vampire's most feared enemy! I've been trapped by a door a few times... damn that's annoying. Luckily I didn't get it before the patch came out, so it's relatively bug free. And what a great game it is. Completely sucking up all my spare time (along with PoP:WW and FlatOut), it's so very Deus Ex-esque (wow, what a mouthful), so intriguing... I just have to find out what happens next! It's a real pain! :D

I didn't have any trouble there (well, not after I upped my RAM, but I was trying to run it below min spec before that).

You're going to love the rest of that hotel.
Play it in the dark with the sound up.
    I did =)

This game is rocking. Curiously, it reminds me /most/ of the Tex Murphy stuff - it even has a pawnshop =) I am loving it so far.

Phew, it seems i've been lucky. I haven't needed to patch my version yet. Only issues i've had have been stuttering audio after playing the game for 5 hours solid and one or two crashes-to-desktop.
Can't wait to get home and play it again, great game even if it feels unpolished at times.

I'd recommend using the patch immediately, there's some scripting problems that result in you not getting your just rewards for doing things. They're annoying rather than game breaking but it's a good idea to apply the patch as your save games aren't affected.

I whole-heartedly agree with that comment. Really makes me want to dig out/look up the Killing Moon series. The funny thing is, the game "genre" that Vampire represents doesn't seem that far advanced from Tex Murphy's archaic adventures. Testament to how golden the oldies really are :)

Stuck in the fucking scenery. I manage to....*spoiler* at Griffith Park but on my fourth try I'm running around like crazy, using Celerity and then I get stuck in the scenery.

    RAAAAAAAAAA!

    /smashes up computer

I wouldn't find it so frustrating if I didn't know that there is actually an interesting game under these problems.

I just saw this in game for 9.98

Oh yes, that's right. (Just under) ten fucking pounds.

Shame my graphics card broke so I can only play shitty old games.

I bought this a week or so after it came out, to play as a counter-foil to HL2.

Crashed like a drunk on a unicycle whenever I tried to play it.

So I wait for a patch, and just as it comes out the game drops to a tenner.

    Arse.

Luckily the game is really quite good, and kept me busy for the last two days.

    Stixx - Retail store?!

Is this game actually any good then? Good points/bad points?

Yes, I have just read the review, but I'd like the opinion of people who've been playing the game for a while.

It's great, buy it, patch it, forgive any of the remaining problems and enjoy one of my top five games of the year.

Now I just need to finish the bugger but it's very, very close. And then I start again as a different clan and see some of those missions I missed out on before, I certainly won't dominate my ghoul into forgetting about me this time around...
