| Would be really nice if that did turn out to be the final design, it looks really good. |

maybe I'm being picky but consoles generally need to look cutting edge.
Other than the PS2/PSP, what console has achieved this? Oh aye sorry, the Xbox was fucking gorgeous. Slipped my mind. -
Really? Are there any problems with your eyes? -

Strange, I certainly only pressed post once... -
Provoking a rection does not = "looking cutting edge". For something to look cutting edge surely means it has to look fucking slick, something which certainly was not achieved by the Gamecube and DEFINITELY not the Xbox.
For the record, I thought the Dreamcast was a beautiful triumph of simple, considered design, which carefully avoided overcooking a brand, unlike so many devices before and after it. -
Has anyone else noticed it looks a bit like Hal from 2001? -

Registered 17 years agoI think that conclave shape is forced. It would look fine flat. Other then that it looks quite nice. It's proper work, but nothing that will stay in my mind.
Btw I hope PS3 will look fecking bizzare ;]. Doesn't matter if peeps will think it's ugly as hell or beautifull. Simillar like with PS2, Ugly, beutifull? Well certainly it doesn't resemble any other console or hi-fi stuff :]. -

Registered 18 years agoBut who's going to pay £360 for one? Or will everybody wait until they retail for £99? -

H.A.L. voice - "I`m sorry Dave, I won`t play that first generation Xbox game"
"Or open the pod bay doors"
"I can read your lips while you swear at me, Dave" -
I wonder if the curves allow you to rest it on top of an xbox, i'll have to try it

I certainly will. It'll be around then that all the good games start coming out anyway. -

Meaning you won't be playing games anymore? Grown up? Dead? -

Registered 19 years agoI think it looks cool. Certainly I'd be happy to put it under my TV. I'm not sure exactly what people are expecting from the next-gen consoles. From the current gen, the most interesting design was the gamecube, but it was also the least practical. You can't put it under a TV, being too tall to fit in most AV shelves and having a top-loading disc.
Fundamemtally, a new console really needs to conform to a few rules:
o) Front-loading with a disc or tray - although a robot arm to come out and grab your disc would be cool, it's too expensive.
o) Controls on the front for doing power on/off, eject disc, reset etc. I suppose you could take all the controls off and put them in a remote, or on the (wireless) controller, but again that seems to me to have more cons than pros.
o) The console needs to be the right size to fit on an under-TV AV shelf. People like to stack their units, making it stackable would be nice, but if you look at the instructions for most DVDs/VCRs/Digital set-top boxes, they tell you not to stack them to prevent overheating.
o) Some way at the front for connecting peripherals. Sure, have wireless controllers, but there's always going to be some peripherals that have to be wired.
These all limit the kind of thing you can come out with. I think the new Xbox design looks pretty good, certainly compared to how the PS2 and Xbox designs looked when they first came out.

Registered 17 years agoAn interesting rumour is that the power button will have other features besides merely showing if the machine is on or off.
As for the design itself, I never really cared much for how my consoles looked - but I think it looks rather nice. -
Gotta say i'm not a fan. I don't like the whole vertical thing - the details are inconsistent on the front with the vertical stand theme.
Maybe if its a shinier silver then i'll take it. -

Registered 18 years agowhat if the rumors of detachable face plates are true? I mean really, if they ship it with a decent main faceplate, and sell the others for a tenner, noone would complain. then they can do special edition ones for the geeks and burberry ones for the chavs... -
64mb memory card maybe?

Not looking that great to me now. I suppose it is a mobile camera pic tho -
I like it, it's a huge improvement over the first one. Still, it's not a lasting, timeless design IMO and it's got "Macintosh Envy" written all over it. -
Great looking console, like something out of 2001 space odyssey. my only concern is the size of the thing - assuming the controller is the same size as the S one we're using now, its about the same dimensions as the current xbox. i suspect the vertical sitting position trys to minimize that issue tho.
