Registered 16 years agoSo... It seems Lando has been fleshed out a bit as a character... He's not, um... entirely straight.
I've been laughing my arse off for a few minutes already. Of course they can't just stop here, they must always push further. There's got to be a sequel, Lando needs some gentle and sensitive loving, Wookie style.
They can ret-con this thing in. Remember when Lando got choked by Chewbacca in Cloud City? Maybe getting choked is just Lando's kink? Remember when he flew the Falcon into the Death Star superstructure with that vagina face alien co-pilot? Lando never promised not to get the Falcon covered in alien spooge after all.
I for one approve, Disney can out-Lucas George Lucas. Get some CG anal beads into the Darth Vader vs. Ben Kenobi duel. Turn Star Wars into Space balls, I'm past caring about the characters anymore, sure Darth Vader had gender reassignment surgery too. It makes sense, he can't have had much left after getting flambeed. -

Really enjoyed it. They took a story no-one was bothered about, with troubled production, and made a film that I'm now hoping we get a sequel/trilogy for. -

Registered 12 years agoIt's good but not great. Could maybe use being 30 minutes shorter. Its a fairly inconsequential story, but the character building is pretty good. Could definitely watch more Glover as Lando. Plenty of easter eggs and fan service to keep you grinning.
Rogue One is the better spin off, as it has a more meaningful pay off, but Solo is still worth a watch -

I went into this today expecting to be disappointed after the pretty dull trailers. I ended up really enjoying it and would possibly put it above Rogue One.

The issue with these filler movies is that we kinda know whats going to happen. Not so much in Solo but we know him and Chewie are going to make it to the end and in Rogue One we know the plans get to the Rebels. However I feel Solo told a better story and did a better job of introducing some new and complicated(for Star Wars) characters.
I loved the Darth Maul reveal but in hindsight I would of prefered a non-lightsabre movie
Donald Glover did a great job with Lando, the guy who plays Han...not so much but I ended up forgetting about it after a while. -

Registered 17 years ago6/10 for me, just seemed really pointless, none of the twists or double crosses were earned whatsoever.
Seriously, what even was Hans girlfriends character? She double crossed so many times it just got daft, same with Woody Harrelson, I don’t really think the writers made any of these twists feel like shockers, even Maul was daft, I assume it isn’t him anyway seeing as he died before the films timeline? [\spoiler]
That L3 droid was a drag for me too.
It did have its moments, but ultimately I don’t feel like I’ve learned much about Han Solo, and he’s not really any more interesting for having had his own film. -

Registered 15 years agoThe problem with Han other than he looks nothing like him is he’s way too short and stubby. At no point of the movie did I believe I was seeing a younger version of him.
But the film has bigger issues, mainly being completely derivative and throwaway. -

About your assumption:
In one of the SW series (possibly rebels) they reveal Maul survived his cutting in half and fall down the shaft and then got fancy robot legs. I believe he goes to make trouble elsewhere with his brother or something.
I read about that a few years ago but apparently they've made it canon, which sucks because it's stupid... -

Registered 18 years agoLoved it. Thought all the characters were great aside from maybe Rio, who I found a bit too full on. But he wasn't in it much. Thought Paul Bettany was awesome. Fearsome bastard. Woody Harrelson was the biggest surprise for me - great character.
Flatter notes for me:
- Darth Maul reveal was a little weak for me
- Rebellion group reveal was a bit weird. Didn't quite get the dramatic focus on the girl with dreadlocks?
- giant electric alien thing was great but bit underused

Just seen Solo. I need to sleep on it but initial impressions is that’s it’s not bad.

It was originally done for a comic but they put it into The Clone Wars series because it was so popular. When Disney took over and they rebooted the canon, it was only the movies and tv shows that remained, so he's been present for a long time.
While it sounds daft on paper, he's been handled really well, and his appearance here was really cool for me (and I assume others who've watched all of the shows). -

Registered 14 years agoWent yesterday, thought it was good in a 7/10 kind of way. I enjoyed it more that Rouge One, the lighthearted tone seemed to suit star wars better. Lando was great, but his droid was pretty irritating. On the lighthearted tone, characters seemed to me to deal with grief fairly abruptly- whenever someone died they seemed to be really sad for a few seconds, then they would be having a laugh and a quip in the next scene. Didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but it did stand out as a bit odd in terms of tone. -

If he doesn't keep the helmet on for the entire movie, I'll be pissed.

Lean into the accent, basically make him Korg from Thor Ragnarok -
He should be played by that other Kiwi who played Korg in Thor Ragnarok. Using the exact same voice.
