| Ah well, fingers crossed. For all the shit I've given this film pre-launch I don't want it to tank. Certainly not without seeing it first. |

Registered 18 years agoMore detailed review. I think they did a great job. Yes, annoying droid was annoying, just like C3PO. The SJWisms didn't bother me but the looks of her did. Are we to believe Lando wanted to hide his sausage in that? There were also a few off key scenes
The Han a Qira reunion felt veeery flat. It's as if they cut out an entire "Schhh... you can't make people know I know you" scene.
The unimpounding of the Falcon was just lame. I guess they tried to go for humor but... nah.
Worst of all was when the badguy from the phantom menace showed up. Ffs...
As I've said I really enjoyed how a lot of things could take place in a fully fleshed out universe without a bunch of exposition.
They don't have to explain how big and militaristic the Empire is.
Or that guy with scars, I assume he's got a comic book backstory that explains his scars and why they flared up etc. So glad I didn't have to sit through an explanation of that.
Also, all the tie ins with the Kessel run being completed in less than 12 parsec or the Solo/Lando argument about wether or not he won the falcon fair and square.
Absolute winner was when Han shot first! I gLOLed (much to the surprise of my eight year old son)
I think it was a very entertaining film and I'd love a sequel. Will make some effort to get my hands on R1 now.
The final scene in the cockpit with Han and Chewie taking off int hyperspace made me really want a sequel. -

Registered 7 years agoI quite liked it, it being attached to an existing star wars character probably harmed it more than it helped.
If they're going to keep doing the spin offs they need to focus on new things not fleshing out backstory.
The cameo was very odd given the timeline but I'd be fairly happy with that as a spin off. -

Registered 17 years agoYes, you need to be aware of Star Wars outside of the Skywalker saga to understand it on first viewing. There are clues on screen though, and I assume a sequel would flesh it out a bit further for the 'only movies' crowd.
Clone Wars and Rebels are canon, and these anthology films are part of that "expanded universe" stuff. -

Registered 7 years agoI thought it tied into that but hardly anyone has seen them compared to the proper films. Cameos are fine but not when they will confuse 90% of the audience. It's the sort of thing marvel might put in at the end of credits but in the middle of the film it's just out of place. -

Really!? He's alive!? That makes more sense in one way and is a fucking travesty in another. What's next? Bobba Fet escaping Sarlac?

Registered 17 years agoIt looks as though it's officially been decalred a huge flop. It seems as though a lot of people are very pleased about this.
What the worry seemed to be is that this was going to be the first step into making the Star Wars films like Marvel, with spin-offs coming from every possible character.
Will it change anything? At first I thought it wouldn't but it might. It certainly looks as they're only going to do one a year now. Sure, they can try and make two or three a year but if people don't go and see them, they'll stop real quick.
Putting it right after Infinity War and Deadpool 2 wasn't a great idea either. Nothing coming out at Xmas really (Aquaman?) so it may have done better then. I know a lot of people who just assumed it was out at Xmas. -

Registered 17 years agoI did find the decision to move it to May, especially with a then 18 month gap to IX, an odd move.
For the last 3 years people have been getting their SW fix, and then suddenly it's in a different slot. -

Registered 17 years agoI reckon it'll do some business on disc/digi sales and rentals though. They'll make money from it yet.
I really like the anthology series but I do think it;s a mistake to focus on named characters and just flesh out backstories. But I guess we're stuck with a certain backdrop and timeline so you can't just make up a new character and then give them a pivotal role in the war - it's always going to be B stories with less dramatic risk in the outcome. -

Registered 8 years agoI don't think there's anything wrong with spin-offs, maybe don't release so close together with your main seriesand with a whole galaxy to get stories from maybe don't rely on the original trilogy so much for your inspiration. -

Registered 17 years agoThe OT is the best bit though. It needs a familiar backdrop to work.
And the "main series" is almost over so it doesn't make sense to just focus on that. -

Registered 8 years agoI disagree I really don't think you have to keep referring to characters from the OT, Rogue One was alright in that book as it used a bit of familiarity to help but a backstory about characters you've already spent a great deal of time with doesn't really breed excitement imo. -
Rogue One isn't a very good example. It's based completely on 1 line from Episode 4 and the only character in the whole film who was worth a shit was also from that film (cameo at the end). -
They didn't even have any Bothans -

I already said up the page that focusing on named characters is a bit of a waste. But I do think you need the backdrop of the Empire being in control of the galaxy for it to sell properly, otherwise you're just creating new stories in a new place in a new time. The thing I like about the anthology films is seeing the galaxy expanded under that period. You can do new characters though, happily.

Registered 16 years agoI thought I saw a fleeting glimpse of R2-D2 in one of the outdoor scenes around a quarter way into the film - maybe at the spaceport when they were trying to escape. However I can find no reference to it online - did anyone else see a brief glimpse of a droid (large, but only shown fleetingly) in one of the scenes that looked like R2-D2? -

Boba (especially now that he's not dead) Fett
Ben and Anakins Wild space adventures
Leias life at court?
The Young Yoda?
As much as I enjoyed Solo and am looking forward to IX I'm not convinced about this whole Star Wars extended universe thing.
Is Thrawn still considered to exist? I rather enjoyed those books but then again I was island hopping in Greece when I read them. -

Registered 14 years ago@Tonka Yep, Thrawn is around and was just featured heavily in Star Wars Rebels season 3 and 4 as well as a new novel (with another on the way this summer) from the original author.
As for the extended universe: they'll be fine. There's a whole galaxy of stories to tell once they move beyond the existing stuff and the TV shows have found multiple ways of doing just that. In an odd way the perceived need to link the movies to existing material has been problematic at finding wider audiences. Hopefully we'll see them taking bigger chances now we're winding up the Skywalker saga. Don't get me wrong, I've actually enjoyed everything they've done since Disney took over but it'd be nice to see a wider focus going forward. -

Does anyone actually believe the main series will be done at episode 9? I can't see it myself. Surely they'll leave the door open. I can see it running until episode 428. -
Well they have 2 other trilogies in pre-production already. I could see it being the end of the 'Skywalker Saga' or whatever they're calling it, though.
