Gyllenhaal seems too nice, kindness in those eyes. Got the stubble though.

Would be a good Joker but we don't always need to see him.
Too nice to be batman but would be a good joker? Not sure that works.

You obviously didn't see him in Nightcrawler. Take any shot of him from that film, colour his skin white and his hair green and you'd have a decent idea of what his theoretical Joker would be like.

Edit: Someone's already done a mockup:

Ron Perlman or David Harbour for me, I always get them mixed up.

Son, you have no idea. Ron Perlman or David Harbour as Batman sounds like my idea of Hell, boy.

I've been trying to get my head around all this talk about Affleck planning to bow out of the franchise, and even he's admitted that he's looking at a way to "segue" out of it in an elegant manner.

It's just struck me that he and Jared Leto are really the only potentially recurring main actors in the DCEU to be 40-plus, and given that Batman here is supposed to be in his "twilight years" as it were with Robin dead, the Penguin gone (JL trailer makes that pretty clear), there's really not much left in the way of standalone material for Batfleck to tell, other than perhaps The Killing Joke and Dark Knight Returns. Given Scorsese's supposed involvement, I think a Killing Joke adaptation with Affleck & Leto could actually work. Maybe that's what Whedon's Batgirl adaptation is working towards.

I wonder if Batfleck will probably end up doing an RDJ since Iron Man 3 (i.e. ensemble movies and cameos only) and leave the standalones as prequels with a younger actor (like Gyllenhaal). That would give Matt Reeves the creative freedom he wants without much of a crossover with the other films.

Not much material? They don't have to rip off comic stories. They could grow some bollocks and write some original stories.
  • Deleted user 17 November 2017 17:00:38
Well, most MCU movies pretty much consist of bits of existing stories put together. Half of Thor Ragnarok was a rough adaptation of Planet Hulk.

I'm not talking about adapting stories wholesale, but there is an expectation that you should at least adapt the established characters, and you get the impression right now that most of the existing villains have had their day in the sun in the DCEU timeline as it stands.

Besides, a Killing Joke adaptation would get WB some of that juicy R-rated money that Fox/Marvel seem to have cracked with Deadpool and Logan right now.

To be honest I don't think DC/WB know what they are doing now.

    Isn't that Reeves plan anyways?
  • Deleted user 17 November 2017 17:16:30
    Maybe. I guess we'll see.

He did good work on the Apes films but there seems to be a pattern of newly-minted top-tier directors of late letting success go to their heads and fucking up everything they do after their first success.

But even so, I am looking forward to seeing what Reeves does with the franchise.
  • Deleted user 17 November 2017 17:35:40
Not sure Reeves can be counted as a greenhorn, he also has Cloverfield and Let Me In to his name. Excellent choice I reckon.
  • Deleted user 17 November 2017 18:13:21
I remember Cloverfield getting absolutely smited by the critics back in 2008, which is why I gave it a miss. I think that was the start of my "fuck the critics" attitude when I saw it by chance a few years later and absolutely loved it.

10 Cloverfield Lane on the other hand is ridiculously overrated.

Cloverfield got mostly positive reviews though, pretty much on a par with 10 CL.

Affleck seems to be doing his best to try and get himself sacked from role after all the weird press events he's done this week.

Reeves walked away from it at one point but they managed to get him back. The presumption was that WB insisted in doing things a certain way and he just wasn't having any of it.

What she?? Also has affleck walked away yet? Or does he have to promote in China first??

My guess is that justice league 2 will be his last, or is a batman movie due out first?
