I heard rumours this was was happening a while back, but now its all come out at Comic Con apparently!

Created by Jonathan Nolan and Starring :
Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Ed Harris and Thandie Newton.

Not a bad fucking cast by all accounts!

Apparently the official tagline is :

“have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?”
Definitely keeping an eye on this!

Very interesting particularly as it's HBO (was saying just the other day on here that it would be great to seem them have a crack at some sci-fi).

Shame this won't have any involvement from Michael Crichton though. Nolan is ok, but not in his league, and the whole concept is Crichton's whole "don't fuck with science" driving theme.

Also not seeing a "The Gunslinger" listed in the cast, which makes me wonder if this is a prequel of sorts, and they'll introduce him for series 2 or something (with s suitably big name for the part).

Westworld is one of those movies that is ripe for remake so am interested in this. Movie would have been better though.

Edit - when does it start?

I'd infinitely prefer great movies to inspire great TV series, than remakes. Fargo was amazing in this respect.

Well.... Crichton did have quite a lot of involvement in the first failed attempt at a series and Nolan created Person of Interest, which is fantastic, so I think the balance is right this time.

Sounds like it would make a good 90 minute film. Not sure how it could be padded out to a tv series.

After proving himself to be reactionary old twat of the highest order after Disclosure/Rising Sun, I'd rather have Nolan on board than the hoary old dinosaur *rofl* of Crichton, God rest his bones.

Trufax: Crichton quit the film version of Rising Sun because the director had the temerity to cast Wesley Snipes *A BLACK MAN* as the lead. The thin justification for his throwing his toys out the pram was that LA's Special Services police unit didn't have any black cops in it at the time - racism being used to justify racism, the wag.

He also made it so none of the dinosaurs were black.

Definitely like the look of this - a nice mix of western and sci-fi, plus the cast is very impressive.

    Fingers crossed it's good!

That's rather more sci-fi than I was expecting.

I take it you've not seen the film adaptation?

I have, but I don't remember there being giant labs with clones and Blade Runner-esque conversations about android consciousness.

It has been a while since I saw it, though. I definitely remember robot Yul Brynner.

Not clones, it's all androids. There were massive underground complexes in the films, because Westworld was only one of the parts of the park, there was also a Roman area as well, think there was a third area but I think it's only referred to rather than seen.

The underground complex stretches between all the different parts of the park, it also had factories and repair areas for all of the androids.

Ok, maybe it's time for another watch. I don't remember much about the underground bits.

    @YenRug

The 3rd area was Medieval World, which was seen in the film. Definitely remember a robot dressed as a knight attacking the tourists with his sword.

@DMBAR Ah yes, I couldn't think what period it covered, as soon as I read Medieval it all came back. Wasn't it the "infamous Black Knight", or something like that?
