Finally got my hands on this and have watched all the way up to the Jaynestown so far. Looking forward to the rest of it tonight., Best Scifi, hell even a TV series, I have seen in a long long time. I was expecting good things from it but I wasnt prepared for this level of quality Fan for life. "Well they tell you: never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious." |

"Now. . .
See. . .
For a Firefly fan to say, "It'll be as big as Episode 3!!!" is delerium and delusion.
For a MOVIE CRITIC to say, "It'll be as big as Episode 3!!!" is optimistic if not slightly unrealistic.
For a DISTRIBUTOR. . .who's JOB involves looking at numbers and analyzing statistics, etc. etc. etc. . . to say something along those lines, however. . .and to have the OBVIOUS frustration in his voice of "Dammit, I wish we'd thought of that". . .
I mean. . .
WOW." -

Registered 20 years agoNew trailer is excellent, I like Jayne's approach to passwords too.
Hell I like anything Jayne does, he's the man!
He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.

I know! Definitely not watching more trailers. I enjoyed the first comic though, so I think I'll try to nab the other two. -

Registered 18 years agoBeen watching this for a second time, and a question occurs to me.
In the second half of the pilot episode, Serenity passes a Reaver ship, everybody holds their breath, the two ships pass and they all go on their way.
The gang land, spend some time burying the goods, meet up with Patience, have a shootout etc etc.
Then Wash yells 'Reavers, incoming!' or something similar. The upshot being, the Reavers - after having sailed on in a completely different direction have then at a later point changed their minds, turned round and followed Serentity.
What I don't get is this :
By pulling the Crazy Ivan handbrake turn and then hitting the gas, all they've done is get out of the atmos before the Reaver ship turns round. One of the crew says during the chase that the Reaver ship is faster, so presumably the minute or so (max) that it would take to turn the Reaver ship is nothing compared to how far behind them they must have been in the first place.
I don't understand the 'full burn' bit of Serenity's drive, but it seems slower than, say the Millenium Falcon's Hyperdrive.
So why couldn't the Reavers just follow them again?

Registered 17 years agoDidn't the "full burn" damage the Reaver ship? I assumed it would have and the Reavers would be stuck there for a while (and possibly massacre the planet).
Otherwise maybe they just gave up? -

Registered 18 years agoI wondered whether this was it, but it wasn't made clear.
Then again, my only criticism of the whole series would be that the dialogue isn't recorded terribly well.
I've never had to keep rewinding anything quite as much as this.
Still fabuloso though! -

Yeah, made me doubt my PS2's audio for a while. Annoying. -

Registered 20 years agoFull burn partially ignited the atmosphere of the planet (from what I remember of the space view of it the burn was significant but I'm going on memory - it is definitely in the dialogue that going to 'full burn' in the atmosphere of a planet is a bad thing TM on a normal day) which the managed to keep ahead of and I'm guessing that did quite a bit of damage to she Reaver ship.
Also you've got to remember the Reaver ship is a big hulking thing and so it isn't going to be a quick minute turnaround for the ship when it's descending into orbit. While something like the Firefly class can be quite graceful in atmsphere and pull off stunts a big hulking ship can't. -

Registered 20 years agoI love Firefly, I appreciate the realism of the lack of sound in space too, however I still can't quite see how the non-streamlined ships manage to break orbit and land on a planet without burning up! -
Firefly scripts here. No mention of the baddies being destroyed though...
KAYLEE
You want me to go for full burn?
WASH (O.S.)
Not just yet, but set it up.
KAYLEE
(to Book)
You know where the press regulator is?
He looks about, heads to a part of the engine, opens a panel. Kaylee smiles.
KAYLEE (cont'd)
Head of the class.
She coughs, wincing in pain.
INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING
ZOE
Full burn in atmo? That won't cause
a blowback? Burn us out?
MAL
Even if it doesn't, they can push
just as hard, keep right on us.
Wash, you gotta give me an Ivan.
WASH
See what I can do...
(into com)
Kaylee, how would you feel about
pulling a Crazy Ivan?
INT. ENGINE ROOM - CONTINUING
KAYLEE
Always wanted to try one. Jayne.
Open the port jet control. Cut the
hydraulics.
JAYNE
Where the hell --
KAYLEE
Look. Look where I'm pointing.
He does, opens a panel near the floor.
KAYLEE (cont'd)
Okay. Now it's real simple.
ANGLE: JAYNE'S POV: A tangle mess of cables. Real simple.
EXT. DESERT - CONTINUING
The reaver ship has Serenity locked in. The magnetic grapple warms up, latches flying off.
INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING
MAL
They're on us....
INT. INARA'S SHUTTLE - CONTINUING
Inara moves into the pilot's seat as Simon sits River down.

Kaylee...?
No answer. Then:
KAYLEE (OS)
Okay!
WASH
Everybody hold on to something.
(softly, to the
reavers)
Here's something you can't do...
He SLAMS down a lever and
EXT. DESERT - CONTINUING
Serenity's port jet flips the other way and the ship LURCHES into a perfect one-eighty, spinning on a dime, the jet flips back and it's headed straight for the reaver ship, which dodges at the last second --
INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING
WASH
(into com)
NOW!
INT. ENGINE ROOM - CONTINUING
Book hits a big button with the heel of his hand and the room gets lighter --
EXT. DESERT - CONTINUING
As the ass-end of serenity lights up, sending ripples of fire bursting into the atmosphere as the ship blasts out of there so fast, gradually arcing up toward space...
INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING
Wash is pulling up at the controls with all his might. Finally he eases off, quietly pleased.
Mal and Zoe are kind of amazed.
ZOE
Ain't no way we they can come around
in time to follow us now.
