Can someone link this...it's fucking fantastic!! -
Thanks. Yes, I suspected it had already been seen by a few people, as it was released towards the end of last year. But for the people who haven't...it's a must see! -

Revolution doesn't use projection, it uses something which you can already buy in the shops for your PC - but its just not the standard in games consoles and therefore will be unique.
its like the rumblepak in that, unless its built into the joypad you cannot make games require it, as then people would be left out. but by making sure every joypad has a built in rumble pack allows you to do some toally unique stuff.

I gave up on the games industry years ago, i used to think making games for a living would be the 'bestest job evar!!' but unless you can fund your own project you have to put up with deadlines, market research and the daunting task of looking for a publisher who gives a shit about originality.
Luckily i have plenty of old friends who can put up with being in the biz, and the latest dev kit is only a mobile phone picture away
You'd be surprised, i bet you a good number of EG readers probably work in the industry and have to toy around with the 360 for 9 hours a day, then come back to the forum and try not to say anything.
the next gen war will be battled with joypads and input devices, as not many people can tell the difference between 120 million polygons and 150 million polygons, that and a good working online system which gives MS a headstart. -

Registered 19 years agoThe problem with this rumour is that Ninty seem to be focusing on the fact that the new console will open up gaming to non-gamers. The whole 'mums will want to play Revolution' statement, etc. That really puts the emphasis far more on control than visuals - especially when you consider that anyone not wearing special glasses won't see the benefit of the 3D, which makes the machine far harder to sell (if that indeed was the selling point).
3D could still be a feature of the console, sure, but I think it's unlikely that it will be a prerequisite for games. Unless the controller issue has been an unbelievable red herring, which is highly unlikely. -

Wow, that's amazing. Are we sure Nintendo are doing something like this? If so, I'm looking forward to it.
Damn....now people are confusing the two. I only posted the Augmented Reality stuff to show what is possible these days. -

I doubt that is anything to do with Nintendo but fuck me that's astonishing technology! -
The augmented reality thing seems to be hijacking this thread, so I've made a new thread. Sorry! -

Do either of the London ones have those wrap-around dome screens? I've been in quite a few IMAX cinemas but I'd never seen a dome screen before, they've got one here. Basically once the film starts the doors are closed and they bring down a full half-dome screen, the projection extends well beyond your whole field of vision - it's incredible.
TT, have you been to the imax in the Science museum or just the one at waterloo. I've only been to the one waterloo but the science museum one is easier for me.
thanks for the recomendation for SS:3d as that was one we thought about.
I went to one of those in Paris. Was pretty stunning, but nowhere near as stunning as IMAX in 3D. -

Registered 20 years agoSounds to me like Pirotic could be talking about headtracking - something like this maybe? Fairly established technology, but not widely used.

I know the kind of thing you mean but no they're not like that. But the one in waterloo is a hughe screen and the old one in the Trocadero was something like 7 stories high. So they are more than big enough to fill your field of view if looking straight at it.
I went in a dome one years back at an amusement park, not in 3D and you had to stand as there where no seats. Well at least try to stand, as when they put on rollercoaster footage you really felt like the whole place was moving. -

Interesting.
Indeed.
I don't really care too much about the Xbox2 and PS3 announcements as they just seem to be more of the same, but better. I am really curious what Nintendo will be doing though. -
