| So I decided when I got home from work today that I'd plug my iBook into my cheapo TFT that I use with my PC whenever I can be arsed to turn it on. While it all works fine, I can't help but feel that the 1024x768 resolution is a bit small for a 20-inch screen, so does anyone know of a way that I can sort of hack about with the iBook's settings to get the res higher? It's a long shot, but there's all sorts of mental hacks out there, so I'm sure someone's at least thought about it. Any takers? |

Registered 20 years agoThe ibook is mirroring the internal display hence the 1024 limit. If you get the firmware hack for spanning the iBook display you'll then be able to obtain a higher res!
It does void the warranty, but have a look and see if you wanna proceed!

Hehehe, I just found the exact same thing. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work with Tiger - I get a "Could not patch or authenticate" error. Or something like that anyway :/ -

Yeah that's the one we were talking about otto, but it doesn't work on Tiger. UNLESS - tadaa, got it running on Tiger. How? I installed a barebones copy of Panther on my iPod, booted my iBook from it, installed the desktop expander thingy, reset my startup disk back to my iBook's HD et voila! Monitor spanning and high res. Wonderful! -
