Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania deal with a beautiful art style and Dark soulsy mechanics.

I backed it on Kickstarter and have been having fun with the beta, the video above is the best I can find from people who have been let's playing it on Youtube. I think it deserves more publicity so chucking it on here.

Edit: it's by Team Cherry from the land of Oz. http://teamcherry.com.au/

I take it this wasn't duplicated since? The game is out now and is lovely and worth a lot more attention then it is currently getting.

Yea I'm liking the way this looks. Going to hold off until I've completed Ori and the blind forrest though.

I posted about it in the Switch thread yesterday. I'll pick it up on that once it's released.

There's a few of us waiting for this on Switch. Metroidvania and Souls aesthetic is right up my alley.

One of the devs posted in a Steam forum back in April saying the port was probably 6-12 months away, so I'm sure activity here will pick up then (probably me yammering on about it).

Finally got to the real ending last night after 50+ hours. It's very good indeed. No EG review yet, might have to go full SSR again.

Yep, you need to do that fight eventually. It should be doable after a couple of nail upgrades.

I just did the boss in the soul sanctuary and have moved onto Crystal something in the mines, but the bench placement for both bosses seems ridiculous, you have to trek for ages to get to both of them.

Is the rest of the game like this?

Those are probably the worst, most of them are closer to a bench.

I'm finding the bench placement a bit awkward as well.

I am enjoying the game but the Dark Souls style "kill your body to get your money back or it's gone next time you die thing" feels a bit out of place and unnecessary in this. Not sure why. Thankfully haven't lost anything yet at least.

I've played it for a while, seem to be stuck /lost in the first section, I have the map bits but I'm saving up for a key or something. So far it's not that good in my opinion, I've played better but obviously it's early days. I can say unequivocally though that the music really fucks me off for some reason.

I got past him in the end but I'm still in two minds about persevering.

It's irritating because the game is solid in just about every respect, but for a few frustrating elements. And what is good is so generic that it almost feels cynical. As though they knew if they hit x, y and z points and did so with nice art direction they'd have a 'good' metroidvania.

    Funny one.

I think I might have gone to Crystal Peak early actually. Didn't think it was too bad, got an item in there and used it to get another upgrade as well. I think I'm back on the intended path again now.

I like it, my only real problem with it is the frequency that I've found myself in a situation where the doors lock with enemies way beyond what I can handle at the moment, miles from a bench.

Picked this up from the steam sale this morning. All this talk of dark souls and metroid is right up my street. Looks lovely too.

Yeah I made a rare impulse for this to play over the summer. Thought it looked awesome but the thread is making me a bit more wary.

My main problem is that the controls are fucked, it lags when moving or jumping sometimes and it really started to fuck me off, I've heard turning of Vsynch fixes it which I've done but not tried it since. It's basically unplayable as soon as you get to a tough part or boss fight in its current state on my PC

I think it's mostly great, just the souls like losing your shit mechanic seems a bit pointless when there's no stats to upgrade.

I've noticed slightly unresponsive controls too, turning off Vsync helped.

Been working my way through this, just defeated some laser ahooting fellow, the boss felt a little cheap as the wind up for his laser was almost nothing which meant jumping around a lot which was also unpredictable, I did kite him a fair amount but that was also pretty unpredictable. A
Still, i am enjoying the atmosphere and general platform puzzling.

Oh and thank you people above, i have been having lots of issues with choppy gameplay, I will try turning vsync off.

So I just really started this last night. It's a bit bloody good, eh? Love the art direction and general vibe; looks gorgeous as well.

Also a rare thing: a game I can actually use my neglected Steam Controller with \o/

And it's here! Bloody brilliant it is.

Remarkable value as well, comes with tons of free DLC. 3 packs already out and a 4th coming soon. Plus an entirely new character to play as somewhere down the line.

Best Switch game since BotW for me.

It's amazing. Rogue Legacy crossed with Dark Souls, with gorgeous artwork. Glad I waited, its perfect for the Switch. Although my other half has stolen it for a couple of days to feed her Stardew Valley addiction, so it's not all good!
