Also you can "overcharm" and equip one more charm than the game says you can if you try equipping a charm 5 times when you're at full, but you'll take double damage from all attacks if you do. If you do go for it, it's best to fill your charms such that you've filled the slots as fully as you can, then add the most expensive one last. |

Registered 7 years agoI've not found anything yet that improves the nail aside from one damage upgrade. Could really do with upgrading the damage some more and increasing it's length as there's some areas I've stumbled into where the enemies take a lot of hits to go down.
I think I need to try and head below the City of Tears as I've not explored the lower part of the map at all and the guy in the village keeps mentioning it so it's clearly trying to nudge me in that direction.

Cheers, thought I'd scoured that area and all I found was the Dream tree and Joni's Blessing. Will give it another go, keen to try some of that stuff.
@GarlVinland if you want to unlock some of the DLC stuff, head to Howling Cliffs and see if you can find something suspicious to use your Dream Nail on.
Hope we get some news soon on the Hornet campaign DLC too! -

Thanks, I found it. I don't want too many hints, but it was nice to find somewhere to spend my things before losing them!
There's way more Geo than you'd ever need.
When you get the dash check out the bottom right of the crossroads area for another one though. -
I managed to do hornet pt 2 last night I am still just messing about at the moment and just kinda stumped upon the boss. not really sure where i am meant to be going yet but as i havent found any new abilities/health/charm slots (still stuck on 7 health and 4 charm) I feel as though i am going to have to do more hunting for stuff.
I am only on the 2nd nail upgrade too, (i need 1 more pale ore) -
a quick google i need to do 7 more bosses
Watcher Knight
Uumuu
Traitor Lord
The Collector
Flukemarn
Hollow Knight
The Radiance
I think i am missing an ability from the ancient basin as well. -
Of the 7 you mentioned, I've done 1, Flukemarn, and the charm you get from it is awesome, am stuck on 2, Watcher Knights and Traitor Lord, and didn't even know 2 existed, although I've gotten a key and can't remember which door it might go into.
Oh, and Zote the Mighty. That prick. -
o, i haven't done him
, he wasn't part of the boss list that i found. I am looking forward to that fight -

Registered 15 years ago@Switch024 the nail improvements are all gotten from there, if you interact again he'll tell you what you need. It's an item called Pale Ore, of which I think there's 7 in the game. You trade them + geo for further nail upgrades..
You can find another Pale Ore quite soon after you enter Ancient Basin. There's another that's easy to get once you get an item that improves your mobility a lot, by revisiting an area high on the map. There's also one as a reward from the Grubfather for rescuing a certain number of grubs, and one from the seer at a certain milestone. The remaining ones are rather more hidden... -

Registered 15 years ago@Graxlar_v3 you may not have to fight him, I left him to die in deepnest because he's a little cunt -

Registered 7 years ago@Duffking Cheers, I've just picked that one up from Ancient Basin as I had a quick wander on my lunch break.
I'm assuming you get a double jump as I have a fair few upgrades but there's still platforms out of reach that I can't get to with the wall jump. -

Not sure what happens if you don't follow his questline and then go to the colosseum, he shows up as the final 'boss' of the first stage where he tries to attack you with a sword made of plywood.
His attacks do no damage, he falls over a lot and when you hit him he goes flying. I cracked up. -
Spent a few more hours last night just flittering about collecting stuff and finding secrets. I think I started one of the dlcs (got the dream nail) and I picked up the next upgrade on the nail so now I have the spiral nail. I have picked up the last ability so am just going through all the maps looking for paths I have previously missed.

Registered 15 years ago@Graxlar_v3 you didn't have the dream nail before? I don't think the dream nail is a dlc thing. -
I didn’t no, I just stumbled upon it whilst looking at all the time paths I was missing. Oh, that’s interesting, I can see how deep the lore is in this game.

Registered 15 years ago@Graxlar_v3 there's a whole lot of places you can go to use it now then! I got it really early on when I played comparatively, went to Crystal Peak pretty much immediately after my first visit to City of Tears. -
I think i went to that area before city of tears so managed to reach the crystal guardian v1 but not 2 and there were other areas i just couldn't reach.
v2 was a fun fight, not. -
There are several bosses that killed the fun for me, my solution was to create the most OP charm combination and just get the thing over with. Defender's Crest + Glowing Womb gives you 4 stinky homing missiles at a time, so long as you have the Soul. This build has been a crutch to get past the hardest bosses every time they threaten to get not-fun. -

Registered 17 years agoWhile Dead Cells and this are not necessarily cut from the same cloth, for those that have played both, is there a clear 'winner' or are they both as awesome as they seem? -
Both are awesome in different ways.
The one thing I can think that they have in common is control of your character and combat are a joy and extremely polished. Apart from that, they are pretty much completely different games.
HK leans more towards Metroidvania-style exploration, lots of backtracking and map-reading. Levels are hand-crafted so they look and feel better, you get more lore etc. Lots and lots of bosses.
DC is pure roguelite, down to the focus on random loot and procedurally generated levels. Playthroughs are more about the moment-to-moment action.
Both have a pretty big Soulsborne influence, acknowledged as much by the developers. In HK it's in the world design and lore and some gameplay systems, in DC it's the combat.
I personally lean towards HK for its huge world and lots of secrets and sidequests, but I don't think you can go too far wrong with either.

Registered 7 years agoI do think some of the bosses lean towards being annoying rather than fun, I've not even reached some of the more infamous ones yet.
I've been getting really irritated by Lost Kin as he spams shit constantly and it feels like luck rather than skill plays a big part. I'm probably trying this fight too early though as there's a lot places I still haven't explored and a lot stuff I've not picked up yet. I've left it for now and will come back later. -

Registered 7 years ago@Duffking Yeah pretty much. I'm sure I almost had him and foolish pride mean that rather than move on I decided to keep banging my head against him for a good hour. -

Registered 15 years agoShould probably move on IMO, you'll need to return to most areas later on at various points anyway. Anything you fight by dream nailing the corpse of something you already killed is generally intended to be fought much later than you killed the original thing. -

Registered 7 years agoYeah I've gone exploring again, it's my own fault really, whenever I come across a boss I hate walking away and normally keep plugging away until it's dead. I had him stunned 3 times on multiple occasions so I was really confident he was almost done. -
Haven't fought any of the dream bosses yet barring Zote, and that one scared me off. Don't think any are compulsory though, which can only be a good thing. -

Registered 17 years agoCheers for the info. So HK is tough, frustrating, and to be avoided. DC is where it's at. Roger that! -
@switch024 yeah, he was mental, those ghosts proper made it difficult. i found him by accident after doing deepnest, he was the boss i lost 1,5000 soul getting back too without realising their was a shortcut
.
i have fought 2 dream warriors so far, no bosses. still some areas i cannot reach but thats ok, i am making my way through every area one at a time. -
@Phattso not frustrating just tough
