We have Apple Play, apparently there is also Android Pay, does anyone use their mobile to pay for stuff. Obviously you are limited to £20 or something (though I think it's going up to £30 or something).

I have an android device, if you have an android which app do you use? Maybe this should go in the Apps thread?

    Whoops.

I pay for all my goods using IOUs issued by the Bank of England personally.

I like cash, makes me feel like a pimp.

Steak bake please. Change for a fifty? Booyakasha.

It's all about the BoultonWatts! (Doesn't have the same ring as Houblons.)

Google Wallet has been around for years but very few organisations signed up to use it properly.  Off the top of my head Barclaycard and Orange did some sort of joint project.

For the widespread working in any shop thing you will need to wait a bit till all banks are on board with the new system which is part of Marshmallow. It will work similar to Apple Pay when it rolls out.

As for do I use it,  I don't but I do use contactless cards so I imagine one day I will use my phone instead.

I'm a bit behnd, I've only just started bothering to use the contactless method with my card in the last month or so despite the fact I've had a card that could do it for ages.

I'd use apple play if i had an iphone 6 or up, i use tap and pay on my debit card all the time.

Having said that, not all places support tap and pay even in central london, so you'd still need your debit card with you.

Ideally you want your oyster, work pass, debit card etc all on your phone so you only need to have that one thing in hand

I was trying out the hipster life one day last week. Travelled to central London for work (with beard), had a burrito for lunch and paid with my iPhone.

It was quick and easy, can't really say much more than that.

I'm a luddite so I dislike the idea of everything being tied to one object. Just think it'd be more annoying if my phone breaks or I misplace it.

My phone case doubles up as my wallet. So that + contactless cards + disabled NFC is the same thing really.

I am using Apple Pay on my watch, it's excellent.Better than a phone I think, because it's there on your wrist, you don't have to get your phone out. Lots of places are taking contactless payments these days, it will only increase. Hopefully they'll have it on vending machines and the like soon.

I don't know what Apple aren't making more of it with the Watch, just about every time I've used it, the serving person makes a comment. Not "you wanker" as my wife does.

Android pay hasn't launched in UK yet. I'll probably give it a go when it does.

I'm waiting until I can press my vaguely swollen glans against some sort of scanning device to pay for shopping less than a tenner

We're not long off being chipped like animals and using that to carry our ID/contactless banking/etc.

Not sure if I'd mind. It'd be harder to lose a hand than it would a wallet.

Your just going to attract the wrong sort of attention if you whip out your Iphone 6 in the local offie to pay for your fags and cans.

No need for chipping, facial recognition and gait analysis will render it old hat.

Hipster pointless wank. Just use contactless debit card if your in a rush?! Why the need to have Apple as a middleman, genuinely don't get this other than from a branding / marketing /Apple Everything point of view.

What happens if you fall over and hurt tour knee. "I am sorry sir, your gait does not match what we have on file, the police have been called for identity theft

For someone that loves gadgets and tech I'll be honest, it was only a few weeks back that I braved using 'contactless' for the first time.
So by my reckoning, I'll be ready to pay for things with my phone around 2020.

I don't like the risk of standing there like a big turd, holding my phone against something and then fuck all happening. :/

What's the advantage(s) of Apple Pay over contactless debit cards?

Thumb print analysis. You'd do well to lose all three

Apparently it's more secure than the perfect security of contactless, because apparently the merchant only gets a one time code, not your card number, so if they're hacked nothing happens.

Still not going to buy an iPhone myself, of course.

    Edit: @Richardiox
