We have Apple Play, apparently there is also Android Pay, does anyone use their mobile to pay for stuff. Obviously you are limited to £20 or something (though I think it's going up to £30 or something). I have an android device, if you have an android which app do you use? Maybe this should go in the Apps thread? |

Registered 6 years agoGoogle Wallet has been around for years but very few organisations signed up to use it properly. Off the top of my head Barclaycard and Orange did some sort of joint project.
For the widespread working in any shop thing you will need to wait a bit till all banks are on board with the new system which is part of Marshmallow. It will work similar to Apple Pay when it rolls out.
As for do I use it, I don't but I do use contactless cards so I imagine one day I will use my phone instead. -

Registered 13 years agoI'm a bit behnd, I've only just started bothering to use the contactless method with my card in the last month or so despite the fact I've had a card that could do it for ages. -

Registered 16 years agoI'd use apple play if i had an iphone 6 or up, i use tap and pay on my debit card all the time.
Having said that, not all places support tap and pay even in central london, so you'd still need your debit card with you.
Ideally you want your oyster, work pass, debit card etc all on your phone so you only need to have that one thing in hand -

Registered 15 years agoI was trying out the hipster life one day last week. Travelled to central London for work (with beard), had a burrito for lunch and paid with my iPhone.
It was quick and easy, can't really say much more than that. -
I'm a luddite so I dislike the idea of everything being tied to one object. Just think it'd be more annoying if my phone breaks or I misplace it.

Registered 20 years agoI am using Apple Pay on my watch, it's excellent.Better than a phone I think, because it's there on your wrist, you don't have to get your phone out. Lots of places are taking contactless payments these days, it will only increase. Hopefully they'll have it on vending machines and the like soon.
I don't know what Apple aren't making more of it with the Watch, just about every time I've used it, the serving person makes a comment. Not "you wanker" as my wife does. -

Registered 15 years agoWe're not long off being chipped like animals and using that to carry our ID/contactless banking/etc.
Not sure if I'd mind. It'd be harder to lose a hand than it would a wallet. -
Your just going to attract the wrong sort of attention if you whip out your Iphone 6 in the local offie to pay for your fags and cans. -

Registered 17 years agoHipster pointless wank. Just use contactless debit card if your in a rush?! Why the need to have Apple as a middleman, genuinely don't get this other than from a branding / marketing /Apple Everything point of view. -

Registered 16 years agoFor someone that loves gadgets and tech I'll be honest, it was only a few weeks back that I braved using 'contactless' for the first time.
So by my reckoning, I'll be ready to pay for things with my phone around 2020.
I don't like the risk of standing there like a big turd, holding my phone against something and then fuck all happening. :/ -

Registered 20 years agoApparently it's more secure than the perfect security of contactless, because apparently the merchant only gets a one time code, not your card number, so if they're hacked nothing happens.
Still not going to buy an iPhone myself, of course.
