Posted over at Gamespot, curious.. "Source: The blog of Brooke Burgess, the creator of the award-winning anime Broken Saints. The official story: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation."--Nintendo rep What we heard: This week saw some new rumors about Nintendo's next-generation console surface. The most interesting of these came from Burgess, who has longstanding ties to Nintendo. In his blog, he reflected on attending the ShoWest conference in March. There, he heard Sin City director Robert Rodriguez mention how he and other filmmakers who are eager to make 3D movies, including James Cameron and Peter Jackson, had become "aware of a game machine beating them to the mainstream 3D market." Burgess then heard from an "industry pundit" that Nintendo had already shown off a stereoscopic peripheral capable of projecting 3D images at last year's E3 for the GameCube, and was planning something even more advanced for the Revolution. A forum post on the same blog also claimed the Revolution will come "equipped with a short-range wireless mapping camera that will somehow make the software 'adapt' itself to [the player's] surroundings," presumably to customize the 3D projections. But since Nintendo is saying nothing, there's not enough information to call this one way or the other. Bogus or not bogus?: We'll see at E3 (hopefully)." |

Registered 18 years agoIt'd be the first revolutionary thing I have heard of. Could be true.
Like people said before, It'll be a challenge for gamemakers to adopt it properly. Moving in depth is going to feel rather different with such a system. -
Dont mean to put a damp squib(TM) on it but can this tech really be manufactured at a low enough cost to consumers?
Personally I dont think so, what then who really knows? -

Nintendo always seem to wait till tech is ready and cheap enough for market. Unlike sony and their cram everything in and we'll release a bigger battery once the tech has caught up approach. -
yeah i know what you mean, but 3D projection? Search the net for equipment like this and im sure youll find some, but expensive shit it is..
someone posted something like this awhile back and the system was well over a grand( i think ) and it was just for showing promos etc. tho it looks amazing.
saying that RD dept for nintendo has apparently increased spending massively this year. -

Registered 20 years agoIf Nintendo can nail this stereoscopic 3D in a home console, they will be the first to start a landslide. I have used stereoscopic equipment, mainly to view and manipulate (in real time) 3D cross sections of bone structures/ other sciencey stuff, and it was incredible. It immediately made me think of the potential in playing a stereoscopic racing game or FPS. This is truly revolutionary stuff. -

Registered 17 years agoThe problem for Nintendo is that with all the wild speculation, the actual product could be a bit of a let down. At least we will get *some* details in 2 weeks. -

I ain't sounds like standard Nintendite 'we will bring gaming in a different direction' shite to me. All you end up with is yet another thing to plug into X machine and control it with sneezing or something. Virtual Boy anybody.

I'd take the whole lot with a big pinch of salt for now. -

It's not being unveiled at E3?
Hopefully the rumours are true though. -

Don't be silly of course it won't be unveiled at E3. We don't need to know.

Yes, it really does look as good as you'd hope, except for some of the sprites don't have depth and so seem to be drawn on the surface of the screen rather than inside the CRT.
Also GTA is similarly staggering but all the light glows and similar sprites are drawn with zero depth in order to make sure they never get obscured by world polygons. It can get a bit annoying but if devs thought about depth for sprites (and increasingly now with physics/particle engines they are) all the time it would kick ass.
shame the shutter tech requires a CRT with a very high refresh rate (120Hz is recomended) to try and avoid eye strain. -

Registered 20 years agoYup. That pic of me was after a mamoth gaming session.
I wonder if the latest gen shutter tech is much better thaan what I've got because those are the glasses that come out when nVidia had just started the tech. Get a bit of ghosting because the LCDs aren't 100% in sync with the monitor refresh and even when black they don't stop all light getting through. -
I've known about those for a while. The effect they gave to games sounded superb but the price put me off.

Plus, Mrs Retroid would've ripped the piss out of me :/ -

Registered 20 years agoThey were only £50 years back (or bundled with some premium cards, mine are ELSA and I think ASUS also bundled) so they can't cost much now. If you've got an nVidia card then there are official drivers available to run them. -
/Thought they were more expensive than that
I do have an Nvidia card, if a GF3Ti200 counts...! -
