Registered 10 years agoThere is a second coming. It was commissioned last year. This repeat is very possibly running up to its launch. -

Registered 10 years agoThought the first series was great, by the way.
Charming, eccentric and a kicker of a last episode. -

Registered 17 years agoYep - there's deffo a second series coming, I believe. Loved the first run - wonderful gentle comedy (sounds like I'm underselling it, but I really don't mean to - it was absolutely pitch perfect - adored it). -

Registered 9 years agoSeries 2 has just started, I think this is a beautiful programme, it's meant to be a comedy but it just ain't, it's beautifully quaint.
The theme to it is so beautiful as well, as said above it's a shame it's buried away on bbc4, it needs to be prime time. -

Registered 9 years agoI wasn't sure if I enjoyed the very first couple of episodes, but it really grew on me. The two leads, in fact most of the cast, are great. But yeah, not really a comedy. -

Registered 9 years agoIt is similar to The Office in that sense, except this is more lovable instead of depressing. -

Andy's wife and mother in-law are daughter and mother in real life. -

Registered 10 years ago@FartPipe It's not laugh-out-loud funny but it is still gently amusing.
I totally agree with you, though. It's quaint and beautiful as well. A totally charming half hour of Tv. Love it to bits. -

Registered 9 years ago@Devilligan I'd call it a drama with a feel good factor, a comedy has to have me in stitches like father ted or open all hours. -

Registered 14 years agoIt is excellent and the cast is really really good.
I read that Sophie, ( is it? The young female who joined in the first series) and the mad old farmer where both voice actors in Everybody's gone to the rapture. -

Registered 18 years agoReally great show, was only introduced to it a couple of weeks ago when I watched the whole of season 1. Very charming, and as someone else said, the theme music is an excellent fit.
Didn't know Andy's wife was Diana Rigg's daughter. Diana Rigg herself was smoking hot about 50 years ago. -

Registered 12 years agoSooo, anybody catch the series 2 finale last night? I'm not entirely sure if I liked it or not.
I mean, sure Lance found the gold, that was almost inevitable. But Becky was being a really stubborn bitch about going travelling, angry at Andy for lying to her, but then suddenly changes her mind, seemingly for no reason, and forgives Andy. Their relationship troubles all seemed to get resolved far too easily out of nowhere, as if they knew both it was the end of the series.
Also, is the Saxon gold they found the same Saxon gold that they missed at the end of the first series, and again hinted at in the sequence at the start of the second series? Were they detecting the same piece of land over and over all this time? I thought they moved on from finding the Saxon gold at the end of series 1.
Regardless, what became of the plane crash? Wasn't there talk of golds coins associated with the crash? Did they just conclude there was no gold associated with the crash at the detectorists rally they held?
I admit I wasn't giving it my full attention last night because I was busy coding, so may have missed key details. Overall both series have been great though. -

Registered 20 years agoNo, not the same treasure as at the end of S1, different field, lots more of it.
I think the suggestion was the german chap knicked the gold whilst they were up at the top of the hill, hence why the police were interested. Or else that there wasn't any gold (most didn't believe the story)

Fantastic show, one of the most enjoyable I've seen for a long time. Hope they do a 3rd series. -

Yeah I suppose Peter could have already found the gold coins buried with the plane, which is a fair assumption. I assumed it didn't exist. It just didn't say either way.

But I thought there was way more gold buried in the field at the end of series 1 because it was the Saxon hoard they'd been looking for.
Then series 2 starts and suddenly we're fed a different flashback story about some different buried Saxon gold. This sequence also shows everything buried with the gold has now rotted away, leaving just the Alfred Jewel-like staff head, which Lance then finds at the end of series 2. This may be considered the "holy grail" of Saxon gold though.
I think I need to re-watch the end of series 1 / start of series 2.

Registered 16 years agoI enjoyed the series so much I don't really mind a few inconsistencies, they needed to wrap things up somehow. The nice thing is that they made a promise to meet back at that spot in a year, once Andy has been to Africa, thus leaving the door open for another series, hopefully. -

Oh yes absolutely, it was clearly left very open-ended. Even just Lance finding the gold and shouting "Yes" (roll credits) leaves the story massively open. Finding the gold may change Andy and Becky's life immediately too, for better or worse, and may change their travel plans.

On the other hand, Lance may not even agree to share the gold with Andy. I doubt it, but who knows! -
For me the best line in the finale was when Russell said, "32? I feel like I've been groomed".
