You know there's a Christmas special on the 23rd December?

The end of S1 was in an open field (remember the outline of the boat?)- the end of S2 was by a significant large rock. I'm sure they are different place - they'd only just got permission to detect on the field in this series.

Yeah I noticed in a list of episodes earlier that there's meant to be a Christmas special Dec 23rd.

Heard nothing official about it so far, but then that's not surprising; I don't think I've seen a single promotion for Detectorists, ever.

They announced it at the end of the broadcast, so it's official.

Each episode gave me the one required guffaw, nothing more, nothing less, but this series isn't all about the one liners. Not long to wait till the special now, at least.

And who else is thinking Shelia might have a long lost offspring as well?

And it looks like Lance is going to try internet dating, so some scope for a love interest to be introduced.

Just found the Christmas special on iPlayer. I'd forgotten about it so it was an unexpected treat.

The theme tune is by a Johhny Flynn, his last album Country Mile was really good.

And if you've ever wondered about an alternative reality where Lance is a hedge fund big city type, married to Becky, then watch Capital on iPlayer....

Just looked this up thanks to this thread.

Looks right up my street so thanks for that.

It felt like more of a coda to the second series than a Christmas special (the only concessions I could see to that were the decorations in the pub).

I really liked how it moved the characters on, especially with the introduction of Rebecca Callard's character, but I do hope that Andy and Becky getting comfortable in Botswana doesn't signal an end to the show.

I thought had a hint of a Christmas ghost story, or maybe it was just a way to tidy things up. Really enjoyed it either way.

I'm surprised they aren't repeating the whole lot on BBC2. Can't think of anything better on the BBC.

Really enjoyed the special. If season 3 is set in Botswana, I'm on board. With a bit of artistic license, there'd be landmines...

Woo! About the only decent comedy/drama on BBC4 that hasn't been bought in from scandinavia. Although the last pepperdine/scanlon thing was BBC4 wasn't it?
