What are you drinking tonight? Page 3

I'm tempted to have a bit of this stuff mind you... Nectar of the gods and amazingly it's remained unopened since last Christmas!

Used to hate rum until I was introduced to the proper sort during an after work event. That stuff's just as lovely as a grand single malt.

@President_Weasel no idea. Trying to think how long they've had it this cheap for. I'm sure I would have noticed before now but perhaps not. I have zero knowledge of the factors involved in the pricing of alcohol. Not complaining though...

...unless it turns out to be toxic and I shit my liver out.

@Nitrous yeah I'm not a fan of San Miguel after recently trying it for the first time in ages, but it is fairly inoffensive. My taste is far too hoppy hipster wanker nowadays :)

Yeah, I'm drinking Williams Bros birds and bees this evening after my rum. My beer has lots of hops and also elderflower. (Hipster).
However there's nothing really wrong with San Miguel as far as I can tell

Fuck it all. I'm off to Aldi.

    Hmm. Shit. Wine or beer?
If their UK beer is anything like the one they sell here, then expect poor taste and an awful hangover. It seems outrageously expensive though, the cheapest lager on their website is 99.5 pence per litre, Aldi beer here is 0.85 EUR / 56 pence per litre.

edit: miscalculated! Aldi beer is EUR 0.56 / 41 pence per litre here. One 0.5 bottle costs about as much as a cigarette.

I liked the beer in Prague, it has less CO2 in it which makes you less drunk, but to counter that it goes down a lot faster than what I'm used to. It was a lot cheaper too.
    Sounds like Aldi beer

Currently, a bottle of Saint-Emillion Grand Cru. I'm not sure it's all it's cracked up to be to be honest. Although I don't think '12 was a good vintage year anyway in France, which might have something to do with it.

@DrStrangelove yeah but they had a lot of local beers in tonight. Think I would have gone wine as otherwise it's pretty rank!

    @GearsofTrout

Love peroni. I'm drinking one right now! I got a load with my shopping delivery this morning. My local has it on tap and I often have that or frontier pale ale which they also have on tap.

Huh, Italian beer, I wasn't aware that existed. Almost sounds like an oxymoron; I have difficulty imaging it being any good.

Related anecdote: I once visited a local brewery who produce one beer among several that is fairly strong (12 degrees)
According to the owner it was aimed primarily at wine centric countries, particularly Italy, because they usually didn't appreciate beer as they found it too weak, being used to wine. From what he told it worked too.

@JoeBlade that is surprising to hear, because our most famous national beers (Peroni, Moretti, Nastro Azzurro) are all pretty weak. Usually 5% at most.

They also make stronger variants of course, but I've never heard of anyone sitting in front of a football match drinking anything other than a basic can. After all, they are the cheapest ones.

@Malek86 Oh that has probably just changed in the past decades then; I must admit that story is nearly 25 years old.

I've noticed a lot of changes in local food and drink habits (lot more variety mostly) so I presume that's probably true of Italy as well. I could very well imagine the stereotypical image of the wine drinking Italian is dated these days.

@JoeBlade well... kinda. When I go at big dinners, there's usually a couple people ordering wine. But no more than that. A lot more people order a beer or a coke. I guess globalisation has arrived everywhere. Not that I mind, because I don't even like wine.

The only thing we stil don't get are pizza chains. Pizza Hut still refuses to open shop here!

Hmm. Now... Do I want to drink again tonight? That local Dark Ale I had last night was phenomenal, tempted to get more of it. Had a bit of a nasty head this morning though.

Shit, why am I doing this to myself again.

I'm just debating if I want to indulge tonight after over indulging last night. I'm thinking Guinness might do me some good.

Becks and some schnapps I got from Chermany. Wedding tomorrow, writing best man speech tonight whilst slightly hammered as will give it slightly hammered.

    Sensible, right?
