I was not sure where to put this, but here it is anyway.... Er... so, what game magazines DO you get? I get NOM (Nintendo Official Magzine) monthly, try and get Edge frequently, and sometimes buy Games TM (mainly for the Retro stuff). |
What game magazines do you get?

I get Retro Gamer.
That's it... print magazines aren't worth it anymore. -

Agreed.
Especially as it doesn't have the best factual writing in the world. Too general, not enough hard info about the machines a lot of the time.
Frustrating.
Plus, the coverdisks are mostly shite. Then that's hardly a new problem

I've got a gamestm subscription, its only £2/issue which is great value imo. -

Registered 17 years agoI agree that I get most of my news from Eurogamer and Gamespot, but I like NOM because it has news NO ONE else has, and has free gifts which are quite cool most of the time. It's the best one I get. -

Registered 18 years agoI buy GamesTM sometimes too. Rutty gets the official Xbox mag through his work (no, he doesn't pay for it!) and sometimes I like to read it and laugh at it. -
GamesTM and Edge. i wouldn't touch any official magazines no matter how good the demos are. -

Registered 17 years agoGamesTM and very occasionally Edge. I think GamesTM have by far the most well written articles and reviews and a great Retro section. I have bought OXM twice I think, it really is a very very bad magazine! As a rule though I dont touch official mags.
I have picked up Cube from time to time though it not to bad.
But its GamesTM all the way for me, best games mag I have ever had the pleasure of reading
-
GamesTM and Edge. Just like Pirotic, the demos just aren't worth it now since the quality of the official and unofficial stuff is so bad. £6 for a magazine? Fuck off. -

I have a US $10 for 10 issues subscription to Game Informer and it's easily worth it. Game Informer tend to get a lot of exclusive first looks at games. In fact, Eurogamer regularly runs news stories that are just summaries of Game Informer articles, though ofthen Game Informer is not given credit. Like with the new James Bond game, for instance.
Not sure that is right tbh - I don't think anyone at EG gets Game Informer. -

Registered 17 years agoNope, don't buy GM's. Only if an XBox Mag has a demo on it, that'll tempt me. Otherwise, nothing regular -

Registered 18 years agoDoes anyone remember N Force? (Or SNES Force, as it later became?) I used to love that. I once had a drawing published in it, of Mario throwing darts at a picture of Sonic! -

What would you get these days... Master Chief buggering Solid Snake? o_O -

Registered 19 years agoI get Retro Gamer, and thats it.
Sometimes I pick up Offical Nintendo Magazine if theres any decent free gifts, and the same goes for CUBE magazine, tho now they have stopped the free cheat disks, thats not been for some months.
Otherwise I buy the RadioTimes (yes Im a snob, none of your TV Times common muck for me). And for some reason The Prisoner part-work (Yes I have the VHS and DVD boxsets already but the new DVDs are in a decent bitrate and look so nice on a huge screen.)
Its amazing how many magazines I used to read vs now many I read now. The internet is great. -

Such a pity Nintendo don't do demos. Haven't bought NOM in years (for obvious reasons I ain't 12 anymore)
In general though I get most of my gaming info from the various and plentiful gaming sites around. The mags tend to be odiously out of date with their info. GamesTM though is well worth a read every month. -

Anyway, the internet and magazines both have different ups and downs. -

Registered 17 years agoI buy the official Xbox mag for the fact that it has some nice demos - apart from that it's a bit shit. Like all single-format mags, it's full of rampant fanboy-ism, sony bashing ( a couple of issues back there was a 'new story' taking a whole apge on how it was so great some japanese developer was no longer making final fantasy games for te PS2) and scores based solely on marketing hype. They aslo get most of their facts about things wrong, and, worst of all, too much of the mag is devoted to talking about themselves. I d;n't care about how hilarious it was when Mick spilled tea over Jules' lap, and made him lose Tekken, nor do I care when Fred's birthday is. Your office capers are of no interest to me, I just want to know when Psychonauts is coming out. Mind you - the official xbox mag is nowhere near as notorious as NOM when it comes to fanboyism and 'our console is better than the other consoles', a magazine I am ashamed to say I bought once or twice a while ago. So yeah, when it comes to news, it's either Eurogamer, Gamespot or Evil Avatar for me. -
I get GamesTM on subscription but only for the features & the retro section. Personally, I think the reviews usually suck.
The Ratchet & Clank 3 reviewer whittled on as though it was the first in the series, not a sequels sequel. Lego Star Wars review, lets just ladden it with a load of Star Wars reference ("it's a big pile of Banther poo-doo"....ha ha..ha ha...ha ha.....meh!). It just seems they try their hardest to be "different", I never actually feel as though I'm getting an honest review from them. Not in a they've been bought way, but in that they seem to write what they think their readers want to read & not they're actual opinion.
Also, if you've got this months issue, read the Wipeout Pure review. Now tell me, as they basically creamed all over the game (so much so it was hard to get the pages apart), how on earth did it only get an 8? -

Registered 18 years agoI've basically just bought Edge for the last two years, with the occasional PC mag last year if it had a decent Half-Life 2 article.
I've bought three issues of Games in the past, but I felt that the general level of journalism wasn't quite up to Edge's standard. The design in the mag's certainly dumbed down, and I'm sad that Steven Poole won't be writing for them anymore, but I feel that Edge has the most consistently better writing of any games magazine, possibly entertainment magazine in general.
Not that I think that Games is crap. I just can't afford to buy 2 similar magazines a month. -

I think Edge tend be a bit Elitest (sp?) some of it is very well written, but other times I feel they need to remove their head from their anus.
