No thread up for this yet, so figured I'd see if there is any more interest.

    http://www.vermintide.com/

Really fun almost Left 4 Dead clone, with 5 different classes and a progressive loot system. Played a few hours of it last night, and it was a blast trying to repel the Skaven hordes with our motley crew of Warhammer heroes.

Releases this Friday, but you can buy it on Steam now for 10% off and immediate access to the Beta.

    Anyone else playing this?

Yeah I've had it a few days, really enjoying it. I'm trying to not play it too much while the map choice is so limited, I don't want to get burnt out before the full game launches.

On release it's going to have 13 maps, as far as I'm aware.

I am having a few odd graphical woes with it though that I hope to get resolved tonight - though knowing my luck, it'll be an AMD issue and a hopeless cause.

That's the main reason I gave up on AMD cards. Theoretical price / performance ratio is great, but there are way too many games that have issues.

Well hopefully it's not a lost cause.

On the other hand, the game itself in terms of content has been great. It's got that proper L4D feel of the AI can throw anything at you at any point. Having a Rat Ogre appear less than 30 seconds into a Horn of Magnus (Normal) run (being the equivalent of a Tank in L4D) and watching as our group of fairly new players all chickenhead around and scatter to avoid it was hilarious fun. Packleaders are frustrating as all hell though!

I had my first all tomes and grimoires run last night, I hadn't realised that carrying tomes lowers the team's health, we had about 4 squares of health each at the final stand-off.

Got some lovely pistols out of it.

I thought only the Grimoires dropped your HP?

I'm still rather fresh to this, but it's good fun with JOLLY CO-OPERATION.

I imagine you're right Rivuzu, I just run around and hit things. I know we were all carrying stuff, and we had bugger all health bar.

Can you drop the grimoire's during a fight to get your health back? Like in the tower in Horn of Magnus Magnusson?

You can certainly put stuff down to heal, I don't know if you could leave it for the duration of the fight and then pick it up again at the end, would be a bit of an exploit I guess.

Surprising how little hype this is getting, it's only £14 on CD keys as well. No reviews yet either so I'm guessing it's embargoed.

    How long is a level/game?

There's no embargo but even for review keys the whole game only just unlocked today so I think (hope) people want to play the other 10 levels before they review it. Up until now we've only had 3 levels.

Each level takes about 15-30 minutes (possibly more on harder difficulties, I haven't tried them yet, normal seems to be hard enough right now and there's three levels above that) and there's 13 levels. There's also 5 classes with fairly different gameplay for each. The game is a tiny bit diablo esque in that you do the runs to get loot, which then lets you do the same missions on harder difficulties or with new challenges (like gathering all the tomes/grimoires). Unlike Diablo you only get one piece of loot per run, it's all about maximising your chance of getting the best piece of loot possible by collecting hidden items along the way. I've put 4 or 5 hours into it so far and I feel like I'm just scratching the surface (and have only played as three of the five characters)

Really like the look of this,  but A have to many games and B no friends want to buy it.

If any bright sparks have suggestions for A&B I will happily buy it.  Currently £13 at CDKeys.

For A I'd say this is quite a nice thing to drop into for 15 minutes in between other games or while you're waiting for something to install/someone to come online, and for B I'm 'TPSou' on Steam - add me and you can join our group when we're on. Will be quite a lot over the next week or so.

Quite tempted by this, and it sneaks in before any of the major releases in a few weeks time.

It is rather very good. Sorted out my graphics issue as well, turns out the drivers I was using were two years out of date. Woops.

Enjoying it though. More so than I was L4D.

Better that L4D?  Wow that's a big claim.

Didn't say it was better, just that I'm enjoying it more. For a robot, you suck some times at reading English.

But the different "class" system and Diablo lite addition for loot/equipment does give it a bit of a deeper feel, even if the enemies are direct rips of L4D ones.

Sorry I linked more enjoyment with being better as that is the main goal of any game.  They are very subjective terms after all.

Either way you like it and that's positive :)

Yupyupyup. The Bright Wizard is the only one of the "class"'s that really acts differently though. Their ranged weapon works on an Overheating system, but different weapons have different special attacks - such as a single target shot, or a huge AOE blast, etc.

    To give a quick rundown on the five classes;

The Witch Hunter is more mid-range, using a Rapier with pistol offhand, and dual wielding pistols as his ranged option. Can also use a Zweihander.
The Waywatcher is your typical elven bullshit archer, 70 arrows, can be fired like a damn machinegun with quick taps, longest range, flimsy daggers.
The Bright Wizard doesn't do much with melee, but gets different staves that have different rates of fire and alternate fire modes.
The dwarf and soldier are very similar, with the dwarf more being about pure damage and the soldier being your HOLD THE LINE guy. Both can equip a shield though.

I'd like to add that some of the loot really does a change a class. In my first ever drop I got a blue sword for the wizard that is constantly on fire and does a lot of damage because it sets everything on fire. This means I don't really use my staff ( don't have a good one yet) but I do a lot of melee.

Similarly I got an awesome gun for my dwarf that can OHK most enemies if I get a headshot from ridiculous ranges, that means I end up playing him as a sniper half the time, picking off the special Skaven before they get close.

I've found the classes play pretty differently once you get some good weapons.

Also the dwarf is short and that entertains me.

I'm still yet to get a Trueshot bow, though once I do it'll be easystreet for sure.

Edit: Or is it Trueflight? I can't remember which, the auto-headshot one

It's auto headshot? I didn't realise that, I have one. You do get considerably less ammo though - 30 instead of 70.

I like it when you get a horde when you're next to an ammo supply and can just spam hundreds of arrows.
