Anyone know of a good place for cheap flights from Liverpool (or Manc-hester) to Istanbul depart 25/05 return 26/05 ? Bloody expensive so far.

www.corendon.com offers cheap flights from Brussels to Istanbul (19). A friend of mine used them two months ago and was satisfied.
Two problems: you would have to get to Brussels and according to their website May 25/26 is already a bit of a problem.

    Good photo.

That image doesn't really show anything at all imo.

gives probably as good a view as any. A certain goal if you can assume the blur is the ball and not Gallas' foot. Otherwise, the ball must be right next to his foot, which is probably over the line also. Immaterial anyway, a penalty/Cech sent off would have probably sealed the game.

I fully understand why fans of both clubs think it was a tense, exciting game, and hats off to Liverpool...but I think it was an utter shite match from a neutral perspective. The first leg, first half was a fine example of thrilling football without any goals being scored.

I'm a little surprised the BBC haven't got one of their interactive animations for the goal up yet, they're really good to play about with and would possibly help settle the matter.

It's just as well the final isn't the week after as that's half-term so prices would be even worse.

Heh, did I say are going to be rare? Just heard on the radio that final tickets went on sale mid April! Needless to say there was a pitifully small allocation for actual fans.

You DID put it on them to win the competition rather than the match didn't you? As far as the bookies are concerned the match itself will be treated as a draw.

It all comes down to the domestic FA unless UEFA decide they want Liverpool in it. The English FA have 4 spots that they can give to whoever they want, regardless of league position. The FA have apparently (according to the BBC) held a meeting to discuss the issue and the rumours are they are going to stick with the top four. The Spanish FA let Madrid in once, but it was their discretion.

The only way Liverpool could get in if they finish 5th is if UEFA decide to make an exception (which Johanson has said they'd consider). That said, theres going to be alot of pressure from TV companies to have Liverpool in it next year if they won it, as (and this is with no disrespect to Everton who I think should get the 4th spot) the Reds have a bigger audience draw.

FIFA have no jurisdiction in the matter in the same way that a player can be banned domestically but still play in an international.

C'mon you reds! Gerrard, you owe us...

But if Liverpool only got into the UEFA Cup next year and win it, then got into the CL the following year, can you see them moaning about wanting to defend it instead of being "forced" into the CL?

    Bit hypocritical really...

Ah, the good old days when Liverpool doing well in the Champions League was a surprise rather than the norm.

    I like this future!
