| I thought the books were great, but the show did an incredible job bringing it to life. It's my new favourite show - except for this ridiculous delay. Over a year is insane! How do they expect people to remember anything? |

Registered 15 years agoMaybe they wanted us to forget. Don't forget, we're dealing with the sci-fi version of "the man". -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, it's an amazing show. Don't think for a minute that I'm negging on it. Only thing I find a bit frustrating is how divided the Rocinante crew is. It's like two and a half fractions vying for captains seat.
Wanks profusely
In the books they were pretty straight on to "Yeah, you the Capt Captn" -

Registered 9 years agoThere are four crew. Holden, Naomi, Amos and Alex. Amos would follow Naomi as captain but she doesn't want to be the captain - she said so early on. I don't think Amos or Alex want to be captain, but they have opinions. To be fair, it's a standard trope that there has to be some friction within the crew, for drama. It's not like the solar system is collapsing around them or anything. -

Registered 14 years agoIn the books, particularly Cibola Burn, the 'You're the Captain, Captain' attitude really starts to grate. -
It's a joint production between SyFy and Space (a Canadian SyFy like channel) but the international rights are owned by a third party who appear to have no understanding of the internet and/or hate money. -

Registered 15 years agoIt took a few episodes to grow on me, but I quite enjoyed it. For us fans of hard sci-fi, there are very very few decent options currently airing. -

Loved it. Great Sci-Fi. I'm willing to let concessions to budget slide when they don't follow through on what they did take time - and money - to establish as ring of the universe.
I think they have adapted the books really well. It's not slavishly but doesn't deviate for the sake of it.
Easily the best TV scifi I've seen in ages. -
Season 2 info, interview and trailer

The international rights are owned by Legendary Pictures, I don't know why they're not licensing them but I think they know how big this show could be and are pricing it beyond what channels are willing to pay; this happened with Breaking Bad as well. -

Registered 6 years agoYeah I watched the first one last night, seems promising. Getting a very Mass Effect feel from a design point of view. Looks surprisingly expensive as well. That fucking hat is going to piss me off though. -

Registered 20 years agoYe, I can see the Mass Effect (1) thing. This is going for that industrial design plus distant corporations that wasn't uncommon in the '70s SciFi and is most famously in Alien. Those old movies being the mood board for the original Mass Effect. -

Fortuitous as have only 2 eps of season 1 left to watch!
Now available on Netflix! -
Finished all 10 eps. I found it to be enjoyable, if patchy. The last 2 eps were really good though and I will happily settle in for a second season. Even my wife was engrossed by the end.
I'm not a fan of the ships pilot, he isnt that convincing an actor so he gets on my nerves a tad.
Really glad it got made, we need more stuff like this. -

Registered 20 years agoLooking good. Hopefully Netflix have paid for weekly streaming rights (which seems to be something they and Amazon Prime both seem to be happy to pay for when buying UK rights and branding the shows) because I'm much rather have the option of watching it as it airs than waiting. -

Registered 13 years agoStumbled on this thread last week, started watching then realised that I had read the first three books in the series. Thoroughly enjoyed the TV series and it follows the events in the first book closely which I found refreshing for a TV adaption.
Now I'm reading book 3 again before jumping into 4 and 5. -
@Shivoa Netflix will do International Streaming two to four hours after it airs, same as they do for Designated Survivor, Shooter and others -

When's it happening? Don't want to watch the trailer as I'm 4 eps into season 1 (and have only read book 1)
