Yeah the first level was a toughie, I think a lot of it was getting used to how the game played. It was such a refreshing experience having no hand holding and no map. Not that that hasn't been done before in a game but it was fantastic dipping into a new IP and not knowing what to expect. -

They should just remake Metal Wolf Chaos then.
Fuck that.
Rather they remade Armoured Core V than Demons Souls.
No where near enough giant flying robot games out right now. -

The first time I played the DLC was in NG+++ and I didn't find Fume too hard. Then I started again with a new character and it took me about 30 attempts to beat him. I came to the conclusion that he is a bastard and that I got lucky the first time round. Love the fight though, especially co-op.
@Fonzie Sinh. Fume knight. Bastards!
Most of the dlc bosses are double hard bastards though. Only ones I've managed ever are Alva and Elanah. They were bastards as well!

Well said. No doubt modern games have lost the edge in their sky-rocketing budgets meaning they felt they had to aim for more casual game. Of course that can be taken to the extreme, as with nintendo no longer aiming for gamers, but for your gran. Nintendo even mistakenly thought the ridiculous sales of the wii were actually a proper consumer base.

Pretty much how it was with me, except with Dark Souls.
I've loved them all but the original is still the standout for me. I'd never played a game like it. I happened to come across demons by chance as well. I was bored and after a particular kind of game and demons kept cropping up on people's lists. A quick YouTube later and I'd ordered it online.
I was enjoying gaming still, but it had lost a lot of it's lustre. I'd still rather play a game than watch TV or a film, but I was often finding myself zoning out for extended periods rather than engaging fully with the game. I'd heard people talk about Demon's, in fact I loved reading people's escapades and struggles in the EG thread, but I didn't think it would be one for me. That changed during one moment in Skyrim.
I was having one of those zoned out moments while travelling towards Dragonreach Bridge (?), when a bandit chief who was way above my level started chasing me. At that point Skyrim's shitty combat took a backseat and it became reminiscent of the Demon's thread stories of fighting for survival against red-eyed knights. I fucking loved it. In that short moment the adrenaline rush shook me out of my gaming apathy, and I was hungry for more. Switching to higher difficulties in other games never came close to satisfying my urges, it had to be expertly designed around the struggle against the challenge, that fight for survival. No game was able to nail it for anything more than a fleeting moment.
So I started watching Youtube playthroughs of Dark Souls to see others struggling through it. Before long I was choosing to spend my spare time watching them rather than actually playing, which was crazy to me. So I chose to take a chance and buy it along with a PS3, knowing I'd eventually want to try Demon's. It's not since I was a kid have I adored a game so much. Sometimes it made me feel like I was shit, others like I was a gaming god. No other gaming experience of that time compared. I bought Demon's and loved it too.
So in short, make this happen please Sony! And do Dark too while you're at it.gif)
The souls series was probably a lucky accident more than anything, but I always like games that aren't afraid to make you suffer - super meat boy, spelunky, FTL, Fzero-gx, which had a perfectly good learning curve anyway imo

And it's not just a sense of pain, it's fair challenge and reward. Granted most retro games were slanted more towards unfair challenge and pain, but I can't imagine most young gamers now even recognizing the pleasures of mastering stuff.
If my nephews anything to go by they are spoiled cunts with no lack of games. -

Registered 14 years agoConsidering most people today play smartphone games, I'd say they are very used to unfair challenges and pain.
If someone asked me to choose my poison between the Shrine of Amana in NG+ and an advanced level of Candy Crush, I'd take a shot and then choose Amana, they are both painful but at least I have a chance of actually completing that.

Terrible site.
edit: Nvm, managed to wade through it with a refresh.
I ggogled a list of Phyre Engine games, and there were a lot. However, the most significant Sony ip that I'd argue is most worthy of a port was easily Demon's.
Hmm.
edit 2: It doesn't say it's a Sony ip, so could be anything really.

T'would be nice if Mr sport could be a sport and give a synopsis of what was said, rather than expect us to sift through an hour plus of possible spectulative drivel

Registered 14 years agoIt's probably about what Miyazaki said last week. He said that an eventual remaster would be made by Sony, not From Software, and even if Sony did decide to greenlight it, From probably wouldn't be involved.
Essentially he said "not our problem, stop bothering us".

This thread should just be locked, I'm not sure I can take the disappointment much longer every time it gets bumped only for it to be an unsubstantiated rumour.
