Because of the argument raging on another thread, I just wondered if it was just me or do most multi-console owners wait for the Xbox version of a multi-platform title...!?

Or do you just get whichever's out first!?

Is this another one of those 'elitist' threads, where only multi-platform owners need apply? Bloody elitist bastards!

FYI, this thread covered the question a while ago.

Personally, since I got the Xbox I'll only buy something on my PS2 if it's an exclusive. For multi-platform titles it's Xbox all the way.

I guess this is a bit of an elitist thread, sorry.

In my experience, those who own all three will go for the Xbox version first, or cube second (which doesn't exactly say a lot about the PS2)

In some cases though, like with the GTA series - I will get the PS2 version because I really can't be arsed faffing around upgrading my PC.

(should've included the PC in this thread as well really..)

Depends, dun'it? I'll usually read reviews of all three versions, consider the type of game it is and decide which controller would best suit it, and if possible give each a try before shelling out.

If it's a game I'm *really* anticipating, though, I'll usually go for the version released first.

I'll definitely not wait for the PC version of Silent Hill 3, for example, though it'll be cheaper, probably look better and might even have more content. I am just impatient.

Pretty much agree with the g'ster there.

Only owning a PS2 and GC limits my options a bit but where possible would go for the GC version but like above tend to spend some time reading about the differences first. One of my main reasons for going for the GC ver is the friggin load times on some PS2 games really hack me off. But going through my games collection of the top of my head, for both machines, i'd say the majority are exclusives any way as a lot of cross platform stuff if generic money grabbing shite anyway and the exclusive stuff tends to be more different/interesting.

    Xbox, GC, PS2

Xbox preferred unless it's a slouch back on the sofa type game in which case Wavebird useage will lead to GC bias.

I'd probably choose the XBox for multi-platform titles, partly cos I think they might benefit from the extra hardware, but mainly cos the XBox is gathering dust and could do with a run.

    Peej, allow me to elaborate.

If it's a frantic action game like, errr, Unreal Championship then I prefer to be sat upright and alert, so I'll pull up a chair and sit upright and alert directly in front of TV.

If it's a bit mellower, Zelda or AC like, then I'll swivel Tv round a few degrees and slouch on the couch at which point Wavebird means kids can't trip over wires.

I have been known to move from two positions and swap controllers when boss levels come along.

I hope this explains it a bit better.

Definitely Xbox, as I've practically abandoned my PS2 and resent now having to delete save files on my memory card when buying a new Gamecube game. Even a lazily tagged on 5.1DD and the convenience of a hard drive and faster loading win out every time.

(Though currently I am only playing Zelda and Metroid with a wavebird - lovely)

Was just pulling yer leg. I love hearing people with Wavebirds waxing lyrical about them is all.

Mach's bloody dead on with the GC pathetic memory card sizing shite. No wonder they give you a card holder slot in every game box! You bloody need a card a game these days (but do they give you a free card with the game? Do they bollocks, unless it's AC)

The standard mem cards are laughable but the 251's aren't bad and it looks like they're eventualy going to get around to releasing the SD adapter so that may help.

Hmmm think I'd better go source a 251, this swapping memory cards biz is getting on my tits (now have to swap between 3 different cards because of AC, Zelda and Metroid!)

PS2 is still a bit expensive to tempt me (with GTA and Silent Hill I'll wait for the PC editions and there are enough exclusives on the other 2 to keep me happy) and I can't use dual shocks.

Between the GC and the Xbox I almost always go Xbox for the HDD memory and touching on better graphics. Then again I do make mistakes as I often get games soon after release on the first console. In Wreckless (I quite like it and it was cheap, don't condemn me) the GC edition had twice the number of levels but I got the Xbox version before it was released. That narked me.

The PC is a bit of a strange beast. If a console game I have comes out on PC (eg. Splinter Cell) I'll usually think they've got my £40 and aquire a copy to play through just to see what it is like with kb/mouse. If a PC game (eg. Max Payne, countless others) is released on a console I usually won't bother with it as the PC version is usually definitive and might even be mod friendly. Then again if it comes out for £5-10 in the bargain bin I might pick it up just to see if the controls work out. Exceptions are PS2 games like GTA3 where I don't have the PS2 hardware.

I'll agree with the others, most games I buy are exclusives on their respective consoles (Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Halo, PDO, PGR) and are part of the reason I got the console as they are the cream of the crop.

Splinter Cell is one of the few titles I can think of recently that was a classic (IMO, you may disagree as it could be really frustrating) and allformat.

You should be able to get a 251 from Currys/Dixons/PC World for about 15-16 quid, which is what I bought the day I got my cheapie Argos Cube. I've got the 251 in slot a and my AC card in slot b and I never worry at all about how much space things take up! The 59 block cards are pretty pointless and I've still not used the free third party one I got with my Cube.

On the multiformat question I'd probably go in the same order everyone else has, or at least will do when I finally get an Xbox, but as the PS2 gets things earliest usually I'd go for that if it means I get it months earlier.

    Right here's my criteria:

GC, PS2 exclusive only and in that order.

Everything else will be Xbox bound. Better graphics, sound, no need for faffing about with memory cards and sometimes the developers can be arsed to add additional features.

Xbox games normally have extra's, but if its a straight lazy port without any graphical updates i'd opt for the GC version simply because of the wavebird and faster loading times.

Err how are the load times faster, Piro? The Xbox has the ability to stream data onto the HDD in game so a lot of the time the load times are negligable can't say the same for the cube.
Certainly considering getting a FreeBird for the Xbox after using the 4Gamers wireless pad for the Cube though.

I also have all 3 consoles and to be quite honest I can never normally be bothered with most multiformat games...
I find that in 9 out of 10 cases system exclusive games are generally more in depth and I tend to return to play those more..

    My order of preference is 1.GC - 2.PS2 - 3.GBA - 4.XBOX

I havent actually bought a game for the XBOX, exclusive or Multiformat, since i bought it about a year ago!! Total waste of dosh!!!

I dont think any multiformat games would even enter my 10 of even 20 favourite games of all time!

I had PS2 so bought all my titles for it. Today got the Cube and will buy exclusives for that machine. Gonna buy a LTD (If still around) X-Box this fornight. Think I'll buy multi format games on the X-BOX! Already pre-ordered the x-box version of Midnight Club2 and True Crimes.

Had Pre-ordered Midnight Club 2 for the PS2 before but canceled it. Cuase everyone argues that X-Box versions are in higher resolution and I beleive Midnight Club2 works with X-BOX LIVE!!

Looking at my collection of games that I've bought recently suggests I don't particularly buy a lot of games that are on all Platforms. But of the ones I have got there has been different reasons.

THPS4, cube or PS2 was my choice, PS2 I went with because of controller (i've mastered 3 on a PS2 controller, didn't fancy the change) and online play with a USB network card.

I got Burnout 2 on the PS2 because it was out ages before the Cube (had no Xbox at the time). Renderware = no difference on other machines.

Then I got SSX Tricky, Need for speed hot pursuit 2 and Madden NFL all for the cube. Reason? All EA cube games in Australia were half price. I paid less than £60 for the lot including postage.

Last one that I can think of that was multiplatform would have been splinter cell on the Xbox. Reason? Part of the £200 4 game pack.

But looking to the future for games I'm thinking of getting that are multiplatform then it kind of depends. If I can get one cheaper on Platform X,Y or Z then I'll take it, unless one platform has a significant advantage. Xbox live also interests me with broadband arriving soon round here so I'd probably buy something like Midnight Club 2 for that reason. But, if all Games on all systems were equal then I'd probably decide based on which controller would work best with it. Extreme Sports titles work best on the PS2 pad I feel. I prefer the Xbox pad for racing games. GC pad is so damn nice for almost everything else. The lack of memory card in the Xbox is another big advantage. I'd probably prefer that for American sports sims which are always memory whores.

For me it depends on the game as well. I first got a Xbox ,then a Cube and then a PC. Was perfectly happy with the X but REALLY wanted to have Metriod and Zelda so I got a cheap Cube. Always enjoyed RTS type games so got a PC...

But Multi format wise, have to go with the Xbox, same as 95% of others so it seems...
