Nothing says confidence in your film like an embargo that close to release day :) I really don't have a good feeling about this, and I managed to enjoy Green Lantern. I've been wrong before though ,like just there when I said I enjoyed what was clearly a terrible film.

It just looks so devoid of anything interesting whatsoever. Same plot as the rest, same type of action + light humour and typical reluctant hero shit.

I'd be more interested in one of these if the main focus was on the bad guy, giving them more depth.

Te trouble is I'd really want that bad guy to be Doom. :(

What this film really needs is a bad guy who fucks people off the top of buildings.

A virtual cookie for anyone who has any idea what I'm on about.

That time you once fucked someone off the top of a building?

    Haha. Quite.

It looks a little like they discovered 'The Dark Knight Returns' and thought 'this dark, gritty look might prove popular'!

Wonder how much product placement they squeeze into this one. Not sure whether Iron Man (2) or the FF films have the title for the most product placement.

Every trailer and every thing that I read about this movie does nothing but convince me that it's properly rubbish. It looks shit.

The thing is...the FF can be really good in the right hands. The Incredibles sadly ruined the party by being exactly the best FF film possible.

Hah, no. The fella from Nip/Tuck who was in the first film did so in the aforementioned show. I am not sure why I contributed this pointless knowledge.

If the film bombs rally hard then they may do a Sony and do a deal with Marvel.

    Pretty much this.

^ Same reason I stopped watching dramas. Too many released all the time.

FF can be really great, but they don't lend themselves to a gritty realistic style. They need to be more fantastical and less grounded to work well IMO.
  • Deleted user 29 July 2015 20:52:25
Aye, it could be. Even the Batman films are pretty tough to watch with Bale putting that fake deep voice on.

Heath Ledger was bloody brilliant in that mind.

That's what they did with the first two films though. Even Hitler walked out on them after 10 minutes, they were so bad.

I remember liking the Silver Surfer one. It was fun! But I haven't seen it in years, so that opinion might have changed.

They were less realistic, sure, but they were also fucking awful! (Although I too remember enjoying the second one, haven't seen it since and am positive it will be terrible if I try it again!)

    Fantastical doesn't always mean shit.

A fantastic Four movie should be silly and a bit tongue in cheek, I reckon Marvel would know what to do with them. I haven't read many of their comics but the ones I have read were a bit daft, with the seriousness mainly coming from marital strife and Ben's affliction.

Doom is a great villain though, especially when they go crazy with the Doombots and the LMDs.

I think they would be excellent as cameos in other Marvel movies but I don't think they have the appeal to be able to hold their own franchise.

I think I would quite like to see a Dr Doom movie set in Latveria with him as the anti-hero vs a bigger villain like Galactus.

Stuff like Galactus will never happen again though, he's just TOO outlandish for film I reckon. Even FF2 back in the day didn't touch him with a bargepole.

Ultimate FF did a version of him that could probably be used, but it's very different from what came before (basically just a fleet of alien ships) and not really that interesting to show on screen.

I agree that FF needs to be lighter and more fun, with some cosmic/fantastical elements in place. All I've seen of the trailer is dark, moody, mainly-real world action with tanks and machine guns. Not at all what I think of when I think FF.

The cast haven't been shown the film.

It's probably just a case of the film not being finished and it being released very last minute, but it not being shown to the people that are in it isn't exactly a confidence booster.

Chronicle was good though. I'm holding onto that. Same director means just as good, right?

    Nothing too unusual about that.

Cineworld Unlimted screening on Tuesday night. Be rude not to go and see it.

I've got zero expectation so will probably enjoy it a lot more.

It's so fucking slow, nothing superheroic happens for most of the film. Reed and Ben become friends in fifth grade and the film skips forward seven years for the kid actors have turned into Miles Teller and Jamie Bell who are in their late twenties and look like it too, yet they're supposed to be 17-18?

Don't pay money to see this at the cinema.

So have you seen it then or are you basing that entirely off the trailer?

They were doing Cineworld Unlimited showings tonight.

Review embargo now lifted and it's getting savaged.
