I'm also not really a fan of pure black costumes that Singer has the team wear. The yellow worked well in First Class I thought. Give them some colour at least. |

Registered 16 years agoThe thing with the costumes is the the first movie when most people thought superheroes were stupid. Even wolverine makes a joke about wearing spandex.
It's kind of normalised now so you can get away with captain america wearing a flag and all that caper. -

Registered 20 years agoSee a large portion of what the evil version of Doctor Doom does in the new movie in this video.
I was quite impressed at the violence of it but it's pretty much all he fucking does.

I thought it was Singer that put them in DoFP when he took over from Vaughn, because he specifically couldn't let his version go and felt that shoehorning them into the new series, creating some obvious continuity issues, was a great idea to give it closure after the shambles that was Final Stand?
CosmicFuzz wrote:
They tried their best to ruin dofp, though, insisting the old franchise be shoehorned into the new one just because first class didn't set the world on fire.
X-Men First Class and DoFP are pretty good.
Another director would have fucked that up horribly.
There's about 20 minutes of really good stuff in X-men 2, the rest is average at best, imo. Singer isn't the right director for superhero movies, though DoFP was decent. -

Registered 15 years agoSaw this tonight. Pretty awful. Has a decent first third, but once they get their powers it all goes to shit. Really dark in places, hints of body horror here and there, but I don't think that really suits this film. For all the Time Story films got wrong, they got the humour/family element.
Ben is barely in it, Doom is fucking awful, the narrative jumps all over the place and the final act is like a bad videogame cutscene.
Feels like a lot of the film is on the cutting room floor. Would love to learn what happened behind the scenes, because there's a real drop in quality from the second act onwards. -

Registered 15 years agoI got the impression the first third was Trank, and the second two thirds had a lot of meddling. Whether that was because Trank had turned in something worse or was an arse or whatever I've no idea, but it felt very disjointed and abrupt. There's some decent promise in the first act, and I didn't mind too much that it took ages for them to get their powers because the character stuff was decent. -

Registered 17 years agoStudio interference only really goes public when the film turns out to be a turd. The original script for Blues Brothers 2000 got rewritten by the studio 17 times before filming began.
However bad it was, he really shouldn't have done that Tweet. It's probably hell to have so much pressure and involvement from the studio but if a director is going to potentially work for Disney, the person should be able to handle it. It's probably a good job Disney ditched him from making the Han Solo film.

Registered 6 years agoWhy does this film exist in the first place is what I don't understand. Ok the one they did a few years ago was flawed but it atleast had a family friendly heart.
Oh yay another super hero origin story. See also Spiderman and Superman. -

Registered 15 years agoIt exists purely because Fox don't want the rights to revert to Marvel.
And just because you're bored of superhero films doesn't mean the public are. Look at the cash that Avengers etc is bringing in. -

I love super hero movies, just that keep re telling the same stories just with a few changes is frustrating. First hour they are lost and then they get powers and must stop the big bad. Oh and dont forget some speech about great power, great responsibility.
Why not build on current stories? And yes I am aware the exact origin does change but not the way they tell it.

Registered 14 years agoThey should just make it a Dr Doom film anyway, with the FF guys as the 'baddies' trying to foil our noble hero. That's an Origin film I'd actually give a shit to see. -

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah, origin stories do tend to be rather similar in terms of plot beats, but I don't mind that too much.

I think the hope with all this shared-universe stuff, studios are starting to build more on what came before, or just skip past the origins completely (like Hulk, Spidey and new Batman).
With something like FF, the intention was clearly to go right back to the start and create a new origin that could be used as a foundation for numerous films moving forward and that the older 2005 origin wouldn't work (and also, they didn't want folk to associate the new film with that one). -

Looking online, it seems another movie is scheduled for the 9th of June 2017.

It may be shit but it's still making money. There are people in here that knew it was terrible before they lined up for entry.
