It's been the rules as long as I can remember that you don't wear your uniform on the way into work. Nothing to do with which area you work in.

I must admit I can't remember the last time I actually saw someone who was obviously police in part uniform. It used to be a thing where you often saw police who were clearly in part uniform either going to or coming home from work. I am probably talking in the 90's now though.

probably, though it was when i was a kid and the idea of being stabbed on Beavers estate didn't appeal to me. Also my school had a bit of an argument with Heston (i think it was Heston anyway - it began with a H ) school and if you were wearing Lampton uniform you were gonna get jumped.

Of course there are areas where it's advisable to not go. But that's got fuck all to do with Muslims.

The area I feel least secure in in Bristol is a poor white neighbourhood.

It is a common urban myth around here that Luton has areas like that but I have no idea if that is true or not. Personally I tend to treat the whole of Bedfordshire as a no-go zone.

Windows up and doors locked even on the M1.
  • Deleted user 10 December 2015 09:08:11
BBC towers, in the 90's it was a lock your door and do up your windows jobbie as you would stop at the traffic lights and get car jacked (though not sure if that was an urban myth)

99% of Bedfordshire is beautiful countryside and wealthy small towns and villages you big nonce.

There are a couple of areas you don't go to in Luton, especially alone or at night.

I also feel terribly insecure walking around Clifton.

It's true. The worst one is, in fact, the whole of Luton

Just came to post that too.

Haha! You couldn't make it up. Just now expecting a Trump/Farage selfie shot and the circle will be complete.

The number of people Radio 5 found for their phone in this morning supporting his ideas was startling.

One lovely chap said the UK should do the same, close our borders and "not let any more in" until we've "been through the ones that are here already".

Still laugh at the fact that the petition for the UK to close it's borders was made by a UK citizen who now lives in Spain.

I see that two thirds of UKIP supporters agree with Trump (says bullshit survey). I wonder which side of the fence Letsghoul sits on?
    Actually I don't. We know.

Who are these people that agree with Trump and co? Is it people like Barney?

Barney: I'm just saying that when we die there's going to be a planet for the French, a planet for the Chinese, and we'll all be a lot happier.
Lisa: Mr. Gumble, you're upsetting me.
    Barney: No, I'm not.

This article is so true because it says what I'm saying all the time. The victory of the islamophobes is the triumph of the jihadists.

Bombs and guns won’t beat us, but our own hysteria will

Sarcasm and polemics aside, what's the worst they could have done to us? A great lot of people in the west is willing to abandon basic democratic principles now. Privacy, freedom of religion, all this stuff is increasingly violated from within. The west is giving up itself for anti-terror countermeasures that haven't even proven to be of any use at all. The jihadists and their tools, the islamophobes, have proven one thing: the west is weak. It has no guts, no self-confidence, doesn't trust its own values.

To fight and not give up means one single thing: uphold democratic principles against any threat. I don't want western society to give up, but currently it's not looking too well.

Yeah, I agree that many of the reactions to the threat result in weakening our society. FWIW, none of those principles you list are derived from democracy, they come from a liberal democracy, or just liberalism for short.

I mainly disagree with that article for the headline grabbing trump=terrorist argument. Lots of apparently more mainstream politicians have already done more than he's done to curtail our rights, although god knows what'll happen if he actually got into power.
