Some of those get counted. The major parties argue over them.

A ‘spoiled’ U.K. ballet could easily be counted for a Party you really hate.

Don't get people who spoil their ballot, unless the vote is rigged.

You could always vote for some independent or minor party worst case, even if it doesn't make a difference in reality.

Doesn't work here. Anything aside from the correct numbering is instantly voided.

I don't understand why you would spoil your ballot if you had optional voting. It's much more effort than just not turning up.

It's a statement innit. I cared enough to turn up but none of you cunts were worth voting for. Although I'm definitely in the just stay at home camp.

Presumably to signify that the reason you're not voting for any of the candidates is that you're not happy with them, rather than just apathetic towards politics like most who don't turn up.

It really isn’t. My colleague is a Tory Councillor who helps do the election counting. He always comes back with stories of what was written / drawn on ballets and what they get counted for.

Last election someone drew a gorilla and one of the Labour representative said it looked like Corbyn. The Tories thought it was funny and let them have it.

Election before someone drew a giant X. The bottom of which passed through the Conversative box. So it got counted for them.

Edit: The cross one was a local election. So it was counted as a 1.

@PazJohnMitch OK, it is possible that your system has those problems, but they're pretty strict about it in Australia (which is where I live)

I think turning up and spoiling your ballot is the right thing to do if you don't believe in any of the candidates.

My wife is planning to do that at the next election. She always voted Labour or Green, but Corbyn has pissed her off over Brexit and she got into a Twitter spat with Nathalie Bennet about Peruvian asparagus. So there is no one left for her to vote for.

Not a lot to tell really.

Nathalie was Tweeting off about something to do with how unethical the Waitrose Peruvian asprargus is.

My wife is Peruvian, took this as a personal slight, and ended up telling Nathalie that she needed to get her facts right and her priorities straight.

Asparagus is an essential component of Peruvian national pride.

Several wars have been fought and hundreds of thousands killed for even the slightest hint of this majestic vegetable being denigrated in any way.

Swap "asparagus" for "pisco" or "cerviche" and you are pretty much spot on. 😜

Yeah, that's what prompted it, I think. Can't see my wife in there anywhere though.

Scarily possible. America did invade, sorry overthrow the Guatemala government as they threatened to raise the price of bananas.

    True story.

    Trump with another absolute belter:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-45863334

Blames Khashoggi death on ‘Rogue killers.’ It’s not really rogue if they’re part of Saudi intelligence and they have the free run of the Saudi Embassy. That comes under state sponsored terrorism.

If you do want to go down the rogue line, Saudi needs to say ‘Ok it was our guys that I lost control of, here they are and they’re going to prison.’

Trump just looks so stupid - like he’s accepted an outrageous porky without even challenging it. I’m mostly apathetic about the guy but sometimes it’s mindblowing. How does no one in his team say ‘Mr President you can’t just echo a foreign government’s line when that line is clearly massively questionable. That makes us look either complicit or too weak to challenge said narrative.’

Interesting the way the story is changing though, looks like the Saudis are no longer saying he walked out.

MBS looking to buy United by all accounts. Strange world.
