I guess "I will force congress to pay for it by withholding wages from tens of thousands of innocent government employees" doesn't have quite as nice a ring to it.

Or "I will borrow money from Chinahh, who by the way I have a great relationship with, and the trade deficit under Obama was terrible, but I spoke to the Chinese leader and we have a great relationship, and Chinah is a big country. Lots of factories. Big beautiful facotories. You wouldn't believe it. But believe me.. We should be making iPhones in the USA."

Something more like he would say trying to explain deficit financing

@Rodney That is an uncanny resemblance to Trump you have there. Is it contagious?

I think he graduated from the same university that LetsGo (peace be upon him) did. Well, when I say university I obviously mean remedial daycare centre.

The Trump administration, which had not anticipated a long-term shutdown, recognized only this week the breadth of the potential impact, several senior administration officials said. The officials said they were focused now on understanding the scope of the consequences and determining whether there is anything they can do to intervene.
Trump in "makes decisions without thinking, asking for advice beforehand" shocker.

"MARIANNA, Fla. — A federal prison here in Florida’s rural Panhandle lost much of its roof and fence during Hurricane Michael in October, forcing hundreds of inmates to relocate to a facility in Yazoo City, Miss., more than 400 miles away.

Since then, corrections officers have had to commute there to work, a seven-hour drive, for two-week stints. As of this week, thanks to the partial federal government shutdown, they will be doing it without pay — no paychecks and no reimbursement for gas, meals and laundry, expenses that can run hundreds of dollars per trip."

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/07/us/florida-government-shutdown-marianna.html

The article end with a bang:

The shutdown on top of the hurricane has caused Ms. Minton to rethink a lot of things.

“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” she said of Mr. Trump. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.”

Not really, it tells you that if you want to it's not hard to find a comment that supports your narrative.

You are right. It is really easy to find quotes that show Trump supporters to be hateful people.

Yeah, 'When I voted for him, I thought he would be fucking over other people, not me!' doesn't exactly elicit a lot of sympathy.

@PazJohnMitch my point is that it's easy to find quotes that say trump is the best president ever, the worst president ever or anything else that you want to portray him as. I loathe the man but one quote that suits a narrative isn't telling of anything.

Except its an anecdote that fits a very obvious pattern and trend.

It's not like the idea that Trump's base might be a teeny bit racist can only be maintained through cherry picking. It's baked into his entire platform and he overtly appeals to racist prejudices as evidenced by the fact that his base want to build a wall around their country to keep brown people out.

In fairness they don't express what sort of people they were hoping would be hurt. It could be for instance they buy into the whole drain the swamp thing and were expecting the corrupt swamp dwellers to be the ones who would be hurting.

This is a perfect case of some context missing and it looking worse than it might really be.

They're missing the point, I suspect possibly intentionally.

But yeah, you'll see a lot of "we elected him to fuck over everyone we don't like". Expect to see a lot more if the wall actually gets built. lol

So I read something today about rumours of a west wing reboot.

How would that even work, now.

It would be tricky. The real world has become too far fetched to be believable.

Not only that, but the veil has been well and truly lifted on the intellect of these cunts.
Politicians are quite clearly just nowhere near as clever as these shows make out. And a thousand times more cunty.

I think we're done here. Get Peter Serafinowicz in as a very camp gay idiot, and have the whole thing play out like a Terry and June slapstick affair where his backroom staff are constantly avoiding disaster through the misdirection and diversion of a bewilderingly dim senate.
    The Best Wing.
Where do I send the pilot script I will barely half finish?

And I would argue 'hurt' wouldn't be the go to phraseology for someone who isnt, at their core, a butthole so that's as much context as you need.

Pretty much what Robin Wright (or maybe the writer, I forget) said about House of Cards. Real life kept, errm, trumping plots they had lined but but dismissed as too far fetched.

Yeah, that word 'hurt' it's a very odd choice of word to use when used in the context of what you want the leader of your country to do.

D'oh! Here I was thinking, "so that's where sassy Trump got his inspiration from".
