@JamboWayOh and @nickthegun I took hurt possible to be used in the same way as such and such's policies are really hurting us. Americans tend to say stuff like "we're hurting". I don't think the phrase means too much.

Let's face it if they are a Trump supporter it's not a huge leap to think their ultimate meaning will not show them in a good light if they were allowed to expand on their thoughts I just think the statement as is is lacking the extra context that would really allow you to know what they are talking about.

Not convinced. If you're not an asshat you're far more likely to say that he's not helping the people who need help, rather than talk about hurting others.

That's what I think. The language used seems strange. As I said when you think about the reasons why you vote someone to lead your country, you wouldn't think 'so they can hurt someone' as a reason. Well not unless you were a cunt.

Anyway I wonder what the chances are of Trump declaring a state of national emergency tonight?

Depends whether the maid that spoon feeds him ice cream turns up to work unpaid or not.

Is that quote about Trump saying George HW Bush definitely voted for him and you can't check because he died but he definitely did real?

Probably fake. HW is on record as saying he voted for Hillary and W is on record saying he left the ballot blank.

Soz for all the twitter links but it's the best for videos of Trump.

Trump gibberish played back at half speed is indistinguishable from drunken gibberish.

It is kinda interesting that in the past Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden all voted in favour of building a border wall. It undermines the Democrat's position that this is just an unnecessary racist vanity project.

I believe that was for a fence, in certain high traffic areas. This is for a concrete / steel wall across pretty much the entire border.

From what I can gather that was to fix holes in the existing fence.

    My favourite fact.

"On top of the cost to build the wall, the U.S. economy would lose more than $4 billion a year, the economists calculated, meaning the country would forfeit nearly $30,000 in lost economic output for each Mexican migrant the wall stops."

It was fencing plus a number of other things, like checkpoints, UAVs etc to monitor the border. All of that is still in place.

The $5b hasnít been fully costed or planned. No estimates think thatís enough money to actually do it and other methods are available that werenít available 12 years ago.

At the time anyone crossing the border was automatically a criminal which was also a factor.

Thereís some hypocrisy in the change of heart until the detail is looked at.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a moat and fill it full of alligators?

Nah you want hundreds of tower snipers but no guns.

Instead they have recorders that play the brown note.

Anyone within earshot shits their pants. Forcing them to return home for new pants.

I'm not joking when I say that if you had Trump's ear, I could see him going down that path

I don't think the Dems are against border fencing/walls in principle. It's more that they don't consider there is a border crisis that justifies an additional $5 billion (which I think is just one year - Trump wants $25 over five years).

There is already a budget allocation for fencing/walls that is underspent so there is no need for additional funds and no specific plan or reports identifying where additional funds might be needed.

The $5 billion is just an arbitrary figure to placate Trump's base so it's makes sense from a purely policy perspective not to support it. Whether it's a good political strategy remains to be seen. Could easily backfire on the Dems.

The way I see it, there's three things at play here with the shutdown/wall crap:

    1) Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh told him not to, despite a bipartisan bill getting approved, and for whatever reason he basically does whatever they tell him to do
    2) It plays into the Dems Vs GOP rhetoric that's popular with his base, and he's using it as a fundraising tactic
    3) Now the Dems control the House, he knows his unfettered free run has come to an end, and this is his last opportunity to funnel government money into his personal wealth, hence an arbitrary high figure with no actual design plan or budget breakdown.

I still feel like he's trying to get himself in a position where he makes a tonne of money and then just as Mueller starts to conclude, resigns and has Pence pardon him so he waltzes off into the sunset with the loot.

I swear they're really going to have to look at what powers are granted to a president after he finishes. In two years he's proved the checks and balances they have in place are fucking garbage.

Again though, I donít really see how they can argue itís unnecessary or racist as they wanted the same thing on, even if it wasnít on the same scale.

    Unrealistic, unpragmatic etc ok.
