Registered 15 years agoWonder if Bob Woodward will do a third Trump book, covering the final weeks of the election campaign and the aftermath. The second book, Rage, is very good, but only covers up to early Summer 2020. -

Enjoyable.
*Farage
Although, whoever chose the music for the golfing section deserves a BAFTA on their own

We wondered for years what would finally turn Pence against Trump. Turns out that in the end "whipping up an angry, armed mob to lynch him" was the tipping point.

Registered 15 years ago@JamboWayOh I still remember his 2016 victory speech, which, despite the weird gestures, odd intonation and creepy-dead-eyed-child standing next to him, sounded almost like a normal victory speech. He even said nice things about Clinton. No building walls, no travel bans, just the normal stuff election winners say, with weird hand gestures and creepy-dead-eyed-child thrown in.
If you were a hopeless optimist and willing to ignore plenty of evidence to the contrary, it was almost possible to believe that his campaign rhetoric had been just empty rhetoric and that he'd actually turn out to be a normal-ish president.
That didn't end so well. -

Registered 16 years agoDo you think he’ll still dominate headlines once he’s gone? Impeachment etc. Or will he fade away into obscurity? It’s been great having him silenced.
Not really been following too much the last few days. Not seen anything regarding armed protests or the like yet. -

Registered 9 years agoI think his disappearing from the presidency and social media will go some way to making him... quieter. Less able to dominate the news cycle.
I don't think his cultists will go away. The mainstream GOP establishment seems pretty fed up by all the QAnon nonsense, though, so I don't really know where they're going to end up. I'm sure other people will try to take the Trumpers under their wing, but I don't know how much of his "movement" (such as it was) will survive without him leading it. -

Registered 14 years agoFive years too late really.
Seems like the Republicans are fairly split between the “establishment” GOP, and the Trumpian “America First” GOP.
I suspect the corporate donors will support the establishment GOPers, whereas the base will lean towards the America First wing, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out
