This is totally the reason isn't it? Demurdochracy in action.
It’s just his government has completely captured the media which is overwhelmingly owned by Murdoch and favourable to his government.

Registered 14 years agoThere was a little microcosm of this problem last week when Morrison gave a speech to the press club.
One of the journalists asked Morrison whether he would do anything about a back bencher spreading anti vax conspiracy theories online. Morrison deflected the question by joking “well, he isn’t my doctor”, and the room full of journalists just laughed and didn’t ask any follow up questions.
The fact that the PM failed to condemn his own party members spreading dangerous misinformation was just shrugged away with a shit joke.

Registered 14 years agoAnother example of him being vile, he developed a scheme that used a flawed methodology for calculating wellfare overpayments and incorrectly classified hundreds of thousands of people as debtors
The scheme shifted the burden of proof onto the welfare recipients so they had to provide bank statements and payslips going back 7 years to dispute their debt which in many cases was literally impossible. Morrison had legal advice at the time saying the debt calculation method was inaccurate and the scheme was illegal.
Despite this Morrison threatened wellfare recipients with prison if they didn’t repay the debt, and sold the debt onto disreputable debt collection companies.
The government lost a large class action over the whole thing last year, and had to pay out over $1 billion, but the damage was already done. It literally drove some people to suicide.
Following the class action, almost none of the coverage linked the scheme to Morrison despite him being the responsible Minister at the time, and then it was completely forgotten from the news cycle within a couple days. No one even mentions it now.
More recently it emerged that one of Morrison’s COVID relief schemes was massively rorted by large corporations, who accept government relief payments while reporting record profits and executive/shareholder payments. Morrison’s response was “I’m not into the politics of envy, if some of those companies want to give the money back then fine. Good for them”.
He is honestly so much worse than Boris. -
