| This time it's Dark Sector on PS3 and Xbox 360, ladies and gentlemen. There's been a trailer of it before, but I think this one's just been put up since there aren't any ratings for it yet. I've watched a about a quarter of it and I'm not terribly impressed. Bad textures, poor animation, doesn't look much better than current-gen. God, if this is Xbox 360 I might wait for PS3 and Revolution... |
Yet another next-gen trailer
-
-
I've never bought a console on launch (Bought the PS2 about 4 months after), but now I have all 3 consoles (Sorry about the slightly confusing title on that, but that's what it was
), so I'll probably wait a bit and make my way through some GC games and old Xbox and PS2 ones I never got round to finishing (i.e. all of them
).
PS3 is apparently much more powerful than Xbox 360, so it'll probably be that that swings me towards it, even though I'll miss out on Halo, PGR etc. Also, something different with the Revolution and the classic Nintendo quality will more or less guarantee I get one of them as well. -

Registered 18 years agoErr... I thought the vote was pretty much out there in regards to the power of the next-gen consoles? TBH, if I can get Riddick-like visuals on a larger scale (Halo 2, OFP - that sorta thing), IŽm a happy camper.
And yes - that trailer DOES look rather pap. Specially the mo-cap. Looks like all the badass cyberwarriors have shat themselves. -
Oh God, just watched Alan Wake one too. That's a big pile of meh as well. The rocks in the water (Which also looks like crap) look really misplaced and jaggy...
With 360 out in November, this is not good.
/prays Sony and Nintendo come up with the goods -

Registered 18 years agoCome on gibbon - donŽt you think youŽre being a BIT pessimistic by judging the 360's potential on a single trailer, made by a relatively unknown dev? When Bungies, Team Ninja's or MGS previews look crap, THEN IŽll tell you what I think of the 360. -
I'd hardly call Remedy unknown. You're right though, I'll wait till E3. But if devs are willing to show off their games in these states rather than waiting until they're improved, well, I dunno...
The game that could sway me though is definitely Perfect Dark Zero. Or Halo 3.

Really? It dosent look much better than Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Doom 3 on X-Box. Not much of a leap at all...
and as for relativley unknown developer, diddn't Digital Extremes have a hand in most of the Unreal Games? -

Registered 20 years agoIt also mentions its the 'PSM trailer'.
But if you go to the Dark Sector site and follow the link to the CNN story it says: -
"Canadian developer Digital Extremes has released a teaser-trailer for their upcoming game "Dark Sector." The footage shown in that teaser is real-time gameplay based on Digital Extreme's projected specs for the Xbox 2 and PS3. Company spokesperson Meridith Braun won't say which emulated console the teaser is running on, only that it represents "a next generation platform."
The trailer is actually a technology demo, showing what the engine is capable of, rather than gameplay footage. Its purpose is to attract publisher interest. But if it is, in fact, representative of what we can expect from the next generation, tomorrow's games will boast a graphical quality that's on par with the pre-rendered (non-interactive) cut-scenes in today's titles."
So its a made up trailer running on a guestimated emulated unnamed platform featuring no actual gameplay. -

Registered 19 years agoI think it looks quite good, and will probably look even more impressive when running.
My only problem with it is the 'brute' at the start. What's he sniffing at? The guy's wearing a helmet so the only thing he'll be able to smell is his own farts.

Calm down. any game worth its salt will be on display at E3. the only reason companys bother release videos/screenshots now is because they know the game will get totally ignored at E3 due to its crummyness. -

Registered 18 years agoI think what people are failing to realise is that these games are on PC too which will probadly hold the Xbox 360 back and also not on final hardware till late summer. Judge exclusives from MS and if it still looks average then fair enough. -

Registered 20 years agoI think that (top trailer with more than 2k downloads is the newer version with more ingame stuff, not sure if people are talking about the teaser that has some dodgy 'bouncing' walk animation in it) is quite a good example of the current state of the art technically. Bit of a possible 'meh' scifi situation for a game but I'll give DE a bit of leeway and wait for the reviews. -
It's looking more and more that the fabled "next generation" isn't going to be that much of a leap in quality as we thought it would be.
Slightly more normal mapping, slightly better lighting, slightly more pollygons.
More of an evolution then a revolution (not a Ninty refrence).
On par with prerenderd movies my ass, unless they mean PSone generation prerendered movies.
