Ok, I'll ask here, as the thread doesn't seem to have a point anyway.

    What does "+1" mean?

Yes, I've notice this starting to creep in here. Don't really know what it is, but I've seen a lot of it on Defcon and Gamefaqs, so can only assume its a bad thing. From what I gather it's to do with user ratings, something that I don't think would ever be considered here.

I get the impression that it's being done in a kind of post-modern ironic kind of way here, a bit like the m0t0rb1k3s thing...

+1 I think comes from invitations to stuff, eg SmoothPete Esquire, +1, means I'm allowed to bring somebody. Usually refers to partners, wives, other halfs basically, but in this sense means "I'm with you"

Actually, I was under the impression it meant "I agree". I'd never seen it before it started appearing on here either. Bit of harmless fun.

    Maybe.

I'd be very hesitant to start using something without really knowing what it means. That just sounds dangerous to me.

If you go and have a look at the Defcon forums, you'll see that every user has a rating. Pretty much every post they make, a mod will give them a rating, something along the lines of +1, +2, -5 etc, based on how "good" that post was.

I can see how that has now become +1 = "I agree", but to be fair that's just your intepretaiotn, not actually what it means. Harmless maybe, but I think it's best we don't develop a culture here of using it.

This is all AFAIK and what I've assumed from looking at other forums. Maybe a more experienced forumite can shed more light.

    +1 = 'I agree' or '/agree'

And means nothing else on this forum I know of.

So I take it -1 means you disagree? :p

Perhaps. But I think you would have had to have +1ed yourself in order to -1 yourself. But lets not go there :)

And if you say +2 means you agree, like, a whole lot? And if you say +1000 it means you want to have that user's babies?

This *was* intended to be a "when'd you reckon the new and improved EG is gonna go online"-thread, but as is so often the case hereabouts, it took a much more interesting turn...

Anyway, +1 to all of the above. Except Lutz's courtship to marilena. Who is a bloke.
