I haven't got around to playing the Xillias yet to compare. I do recall Zestiria maps feels ng too big at times though.

And yeah, I liked Magilou and disliked Bienfu too. Didn't like the amount of duplicate items needed.

Yeah, the Zesty maps were very big. That wouldn't have been as much of a problem if there was any reason at all for it - some decent architecture to look at, some collectibles to find, etc. But they were bland and empty. In Berseria, you have mercifully smaller areas, dotted with Katz Souls (I am going to lose myself in the fashion menu for sure).

I haven't met Bienfu yet, but I disliked Normins in Zestiria, so I'm sure I'm in for a great time when I do D:

The first big plain in Zestiria looked nice with ruins etcuntil you realised how huge and laborious it was to cross and later areas being blander (the desert). I can't remember if Zestiria had any form of 'vehicle' for faster traversal (as well as the bottles that teleported you), thankfully Berseria does.

Nope, just wind step as a support skill. It wasn't nearly good enough for the size and blandness of those maps.

Well I must say, I greatly enjoyed Velvet just nonchalantly lopping off a lizardman's tail while he was busy monologuing.

I had to stop there as I found myself falling asleep at the controls a number of times, with Velvet just running into a wall multiple times :)

Looking forward to getting back on it later.

Did a skit just link this game to Symphonia, or am I reading too much into things?

There's a skit where Eizen talks about where his coin came from, and it's pretty much just a long list of Symphonia references. Well, and Phantasia, but that game is linked to Symphonia in the same way that Zestiria and Berseria are - set in the same world, a thousand years apart.

I'm still getting big Xillia vibes from this. I know the teams merged years ago, but if you told me Zestiria was a Team Destiny game and Berseria a Team Symphonia one, I'd believe you.

So I went looking around the web trying to figure out why it's reminding me so much of the older game. Turns out Berseria's director was the lead designer on Xillia. So maybe that's why?

Just fought my first Dire Foe. Got two MAs off on him (Velvet's, and then Eizen fired his off). Great fun.

I'm really enjoying the battle system in this, though it is a bit easy on normal. That does mean I can get to grips with things with little pressure though. Zestiria, I just couldn't be arsed to really get to grips with its systems, but in Berseria it's really fun.

EDIT Rokurou just blew his MA on a Slime :( I need to turn that off so I can chain them in boss battles.

I'm still really enjoying this. I know I've said that a lot, but it still surprises me!

@Ror Yeah, it's really good. Bit of a curveball from the Tales series, which I've always found passable but not great.

@Rogueywon I've loved Abyss, Vesperia and Xillia, found Zestiria very bland, and actually hated Graces. Bit of a mixed bag of a series I guess, but the ones I've liked, I've really liked.

I will eventually have to get around to properly playing Symphonia; I missed out on it at the time because of its incredibly short print run, and decided I'd never get to play it legitimately, so just watched the anime instead. Then they put it on PS3 and PC a few years later and I just haven't managed to play more than a few hours yet! I think the fact that I know the story already (AFAIK the Symphonia anime follows the game very closely? I thought it was a really good show, too) means that I've not been in a rush to get around to it.

I was pleasantly surprised by Magilou as she looked the most likely to be annoying character. I played through on normal due to backlog. I usually do in a agme unless I know that the real difficulty mode is one of the higher ones (Alien Isolation, Fire Emblem post Awakening) or you get extra content (Perfect Dark, Thief) series). My Tales backlog is still huge...

Berseria has been incredibly easy on normal so far. I wasn't fussed about that to begin with, as I was initially thinking of just blasting through it. But given how much I'm enjoying it, I may knock it up to hard.

Yeah Iím playing on normal and am just button mashing my way through so far with no problems. I donít feel like the game does a great job of explaining its systems though.

A few of the hunts later on are a bit more Challenging on normal but most of it is pretty easy.

Magilou, superb character. As said above I thought she might be annoying, but is actually just hilarious!

Magilou is a great character. One of the reasons why Berseria overall worked so well.

I started this yesterday and so far it's good. I'm playing on hard mode at the moment and so far, I think I've only had to use a heal item twice, both on bosses. I left it yesterday when I'd met the pirates so will have another go tonight. The combat system seems ok in this so far but you get so much loot, I seem to be just dismantling most items for materials.

The loot system was the worst part of the game for me. Such a time waster. My final game stats had me in the menus more than battles which is inherently 'wrong'...
