I'm not that bothered. All the FF games are overpriced on every digital platform, it's not really unexpected. I know I will get a lot of gameplay out of it and it's nice to finally have a PC version of FFIX. Been waiting about 15 years for it |

Registered 15 years agoArguably the best final fantasy. Loved it as a kid. Must have played through a dozen times or more. -
£12.79, 79p over my "okay" price. £16 would be too much though. I'll have to think about it.
Anybody seen any reviews of the port? Just wondering if there's any known bugs. The higher rezzed character models do look lovely, but I'd probably find the disparity between them and the low rez backgrounds distracting. -

If you've played 13, you'll love 9 in hindsight. -

Registered 15 years ago9 was fantastic. None of this every man style of final fantasy where everyone can do everything. That's what I hated about 7 and 8. Felt so soulless. -

I wasn't that enamoured of 9 at the time, but it's head and shoulders above the crap that came after.
X was the last FF game worth playing.

The PS4 version will be a great version to try it again. I'm like a broken record, but IX suffered greatly with it's awful PAL conversion and this will be the first time you can officially and easily play it at 60hz. -

Registered 12 years agoHmm... Do I wait for a sale? I love the game (my favourites are IV, VII, IX and X), but it's not like I'm going to start it immediately.

Just shy of £13 until April 20 then up to regular price of £16.
Seems kind of expensive, but it'll likely go down before I get round to buying it anyway. Got Nights of Azure to start(and get halfway through and not finish) so I reckon I can hold back for that price drop. -

Have a look at that in fullscreen. The BGs could have used a bit of work. -
Would have been wonderful if they could upgrade the backgrounds but never expected them too. Wonder if they even have the HD art masters still, wouldn't surprise me if it's just been lost in the system. -

Registered 13 years agoJust for anyone debating about getting it on PC. It's £12.79 on GMG, the same price as Steam but if you use code APR20 at the checkout it drops it down to £10.24

That looks poor to be honest, made worse by the HD characters. Still think that the Vita or PSP are the best systems to play this on as the screen is smaller and the games still look pretty nice on them.

From the JP version though, so there's scope for disappointment depending on localisation. -

Registered 12 years ago@richarddavies Cheers for that, I'm certainly tempted.
As for the BGs, I didn't expect them to do anything either, but they do look a bit shoddier than I expected. More of a shame considering the art in the GAF thread I linked on page 1. -

Really tempting, but I already have a backlog as it is...
I haven't played it since like a decade ago, so definitely looking forward to playing it again. It's a fantastic game from what I remember.
The PC release is definitely a momentous occasion! -

Ha, fair enough! Seems like one of those enjoyably-mid-tier JP games that almost fell off the face of the Earth last gen, so I'll continue to keep an eye on it. Combat looked quite fun from the videos I watched.

Decided to get it in the end. As expected I'm finding the disparity between the models and backgrounds a bit distracting, hope I get used to it. Though I'm sure many would disagree I kinda wish there was an option to have the old models, so they better fitted in with the backgrounds.
And for another minor quibble, I don't like the font used in dialogue and menus, very bland phoney sort of font.
Aside from that it seems ok. Now just need to get round to playing it. -

Registered 9 years agoPlayed a few hours of it. Satisfied with it overall - standard def backgrounds and the clunky mobile UI for battles I can see myself getting used to in due time. The transition from the cutscene to the gameplay graphics at the beginning with Vivi was quite distracting, so I hope there isn't lot of that in the game.
I actually don't really mind the font used here, it could be worse, but I can understand why others wouldn't like it. The speed forward feature definitely seems to be a useful feature for grinding, but as someone who hasn't played it for a long while, maybe I won't use it as much and just enjoy the experience. Looking forward to properly play it through sometime! -

It's the noise of my Steam backlog asking why I haven't touched this game since I got it since release

Registered 16 years agoI can't say I'm that surprised, what with the source code to entire classic games being lost but I'd have thought a publisher as fussy about graphics as Square Enix would have had some higher res versions of the FF IX background assets somewhere.
Nobody creates artwork with the dial set to blurry shit in 320x240, that happens later on. -
Ah shit arse, saw it bumped and hoped finally a PS4 release like with FFVII! Bah. One day, surely. My favourite game of all time.
