Also one of my favourites.. all the FF's available on Steam at the moment are on sale.

FFVIII which is the only one I didn't have is now a fiver.

Coming to PS4 - already out in Japan it sounds like and hopefully therefore a release worldwide at some point soon.

My favourite game ever and have been holding off replaying in anticipation of a PS4 release with all the increased speed mode etc. Genuinely a game I'd drop all others for and play immediately.

They should really have remade this instead of 7 (not that 7 is getting released this decade).

Only if you're on Plus, isn't it? I let my lapse a while back.

Ah yeah could well be mate.

Just looked at the trophy list, even with x3 or 4 speed it's going to take a long, long time.

Yep I need that. Does it come with the game? I noticed a load of Avatars do (which keep saying there is an error downloading) but didn't even know there was a theme!

edit: quick search says yes, get in!

Excellent, hopefully it'll still be bundled when I get it - I won't just yet, as I have more than enough to be getting on with.

Yeah I started Skyrim last week (about 20 hours in so a good 60 to go) and Danganronpa 3 next Tuesday, but I couldn't resist. Skyrim officially parked it looks like, but hopefully other than Mario Odyssey that's me done for the year!

I'm 30-odd hours into Destiny 2, still have FFXIV on the go, and now that I've finally fixed my PS4 I can actually get back to FFXII!

Oh, and Metroid Samus Returns, which is brilliant.

So yeah, this can wait 'til Christmas at least :D

The platinum trophy can fuck off. And after the FFVII one was so easy /o\

@Psiloc Yeah think this one will be beyond me, just looking at quite a few of the bronze ones makes it look fucking mental. Got the plat on VII within 30 hours but this one will take forever even with the speed boost. Might go for it though, although unlikely!

@Humperfunk Am I right in thinking you've already bought this? First impressions?

Glancing back through the thread, people were having concerns about backgrounds and the new font, if you'd care to feedback on that.

@Psiloc Yep bought mate but at work so I did it on the PS Store online. I should be able to get an hour or so in tonight so will let you know if I do!

From what I can see the PS4 version is a port from the version on steam which has been out for quite a while.

    Initial impressions:

Massive borders on the side are a bit urgh but I imagine I will get used to it.

Graphics are lovely, high res and frame rate noticeably nicer.

Font is also a noticeable from the PS1 game. First thought again is it's obvious but hopeful I will get used to it very quickly, certainly won't impact the game or my enjoyment.

Gone straight for the classic colour scheme but the blue is very garish so may go back to grey.

Fuck me just read what you have to do to get the trophy for Excalibur II, no chance.

They actually have a trophy for getting the Excalibur 2? I'll let other people explore their inner masochism.

There is also one for doing the jump rope bit 100 times.

    ...

    ...and another for 1,000 times.

I'd like to know if FFWD time has an impact on Excalibur 2, because it "breaks" the festival hunt and the Chocobo Hot And Cold by making it piss easy. Everything you do is ultra rapid while the clock remains the same speed.

I was thinking this too - like with the 9999 mode, no random battles and the speed option, Excalibur 2 isn't actually going to be necessarily difficult (other than maybe getting wiped out in boss battles), but certainly not time wise...

Anybody seen any reviews of the port? Just wondering if there's any known bugs. The higher rezzed character models do look lovely, but I'd probably find the disparity between them and the low rez backgrounds distracting.
Backdrops have been uprezzed as much as they can, unfortunately there was only so much that could be done. When it came out on PC, there was immediately a PC "just wait until the modding community do this for them" foot stomping (based on some hi-res art of FF9 that had existed over the years), until they found applying it to the non-static backdrops was, at best, difficult. That's been binned off as far as I know.

I've been playing on phone, and there is nothing game-breaking from my experience.

Had a quick go last night.

    Pros:
    1. 3D models do look really good. Battles shine in particular.
    2. Loading times are, unsurprisingly, massively improved. It would normally go without saying, but this was a massive problem with the original.
    3. CG movies have either been re-rendered, or have gone through an impressive upscale process. One way or the other they look great even on a modern big screen.
    4. Frame rate seems to be 60fps now?
    5. Obviously, the horrendous 50hz slowdown from the PS1 game is no longer an issue. This game is probably number one on the list of games that suffered with its original 50hz conversion.
    6. I'm impressed they included the UK English language option from the original PAL UK release. That was surprisingly thoughtful.

    Cons
    1. There's something uncanny about it that I can't put my finger on. Probably related to it being a port of a port of a port of a port (phew) but it seems slightly less stable than the PS1 game.
    2. I don't like the 4:3 pillarbox borders. I just want them to be black.
    3. I don't like the new font.
    4. I don't like the way they've expanded the exclamation-point-above-the-head system. It now pops up even just to talk to someone, alongside a second bubble if that NPC also plays cards. I'm going to get annoyed with it popping up all the bloody time. It's just going to make you tune it out and overlook when it tries to tell you something useful.
    5. Weirdly, the text speed is incredibly slow by default. I had to speed it up in the options.
    6. The backgrounds are indeed on the blurry side. I'm sure we'll get used to it though.
    7. As with FFVII, I think the cheats are stupidly OP. By all means include the fast forward option (it transformed FFXII for me) but the others? I just don't get why someone would play the game with battles turned off or with infinite HP and MP.

Good points. I think I may have fucked up and left it on the US language by default, not sure if I can change it? Would prefer UK for localisation but not the end of the world if I have to keep going with US. Or could start again but up to the Ice Cavern now after doing some speed grinding which I don't really want to do again!

Agreed on those borders as well, just black would have been way better.

@Ingram85 You can, although I've found it way more accurate to use the d-pad.

Sounds made up. You could in the original. Can't remember if I tried it last night.
