Thoughts? Does 'reefer madness' propaganda still work in the age of the internet? Anyone completely against legalisation?

I don't even smoke it but think it should be legal. It's just too big a thing now. The amount of people I know that do I find it odd that something so widely used in the country is a crime.

I think so, in the same manner as alcohol. No advertising, taxed appropriately, laws against intoxication while operating complicated machinery, etc. Let people make their own decisions about their health like they do with drink and cigs.

Get money out of criminals hands.
Stop wasting police time & money.
Make money through taxes & create jobs. Stop non-violent offenders getting caught up in criminal system.
Possibly less people killing themselves with drink.
Stop people getting addicted to prescription medicines.
Let everyone get high & chill.

    Loads of benefits

I used to smoke it quite a lot and I definitely think its bad for the brain. There's no doubt in my mind that it leads to mental health problems. It also turns people it socially retarded dullards. That being said people should be allowed to do what they want so yeah why not. But if it is so should ecstasy.

I'm a liberal. I believe all drugs should be legal. I'm not suggesting that you can pop into your local Tesco and pick a up a bag of heroin, but it should be more like Portugal - if you need a hit, go to your local GP or whatever, they can safely give you a dose and look after you. It's been proven that this helps people slowly minimise their drug use and eventually stop altogether.

As above. All legalised and better education.
  • Deleted user 9 January 2016 13:45:08
That's not to say I advocate them.

See, addiction (ie, being a 'pothead') is obviously bad, but addiction to any substance is bad. Your view is absolutely valid af fam, but if it was legal and eventually became less of a social stigma, you could at least control your child's use, by letting them only smoke at home and in certain amounts,or whatever rules you'd like yourself. Ultimately, you'll have no control over what they do while away from your supervision anyway, legal or not.

Oh and um, there are already very damaging, legal substances. One more won't make a huge difference.

Plus, dat sweet tax money, build schools and hospitals and fill potholes out of smoke.

People have been getting a buzz on since the dawn of man. Arbituary decisions on what is or not acceptable is looking more archaic in a progressive society which I still maintain we are.

People that ruin their lives have deeper underlying issues that probably would have manifested as something else. The vehicle always clouds the argument and wastes a lot of energy on meaningless debate. Whether it's wrong or not is irrelevant, pretty much everyone has their vice.

All in my opinion of course and from experience.

@TheMayorOfJugs genuine question, where are you that alcohol isn't advertised? It's on billboards, bus stops and tv over here (Belfast).

Alcohol is advertised in the UK too. I think weed shouldn't be advertised. Treat it like cigarettes.

I agree but I'd love to know how they would advertise it.

A better question is why should it be illegal?

Of course it should be, what a question. Virtually everything speaks for it. Even doctors and the police ask for legalisation. Outlawing weed while allowing alcohol is one of the most extreme examples of harmful and retarded legislation justified by nothing but conservatism.

No thanks, our old neighbours were pot heads and the stuff used to stink the fucking street out in summer.

If they can come up with a strain that doesn't smell terrible then I have no problems with it.

Outlawing alcohol doesn't work, the USA learned that lesson. Outlawing weed doesn't work either, people smoke anyway. So what's the fucking point?

@TheMayorOfJugs ahh ok then lol thought maybe Belfast just wanted to play up to the drunken Irish stereotype it's known for (well that and bombs).

I do and I don't think they should legalise it as why make yet another harmful addictive substance legal? Then again it can help the economy and get money from the hands of criminals.

But would it even solve anything, quite a few peole do it just for the thrill of doing something naughty. Might move on to something else for their kick.
